Title: Can Spectrum +3 run PCW software?
Post by: Starglider on 06:43, 20 January 19
Hi! I read recently that the Spectrum +3 runs CP/M and has a 3" disk drive. So I was curious if PCW CP/M software will run on it?

Thanks!, Starglider aka ԹҽɾíƒɾɑϲԵíϲ's RҽԵɾ๏ RҽϲíԹҽs

Hi Starglider,

I think that running dedicated PCW software on the Spectrum would probably be a difficult proposition due to the difference in memory and screen configurations. Generic CPM software - NSWP, DU, MEX Etc is probably available for the Spectrum but you would have to check that out.

Cheers,

Peter

When I was doing my archive of PCW Plus BASIC typeins, I found a lot of the programs would work unmodified on the +3, and a lot more with fairly minor portability fixes (such as using PEEK(2) to find the BIOS jumpblock rather than hardcoding its address). In the case of the game ETHERNET I did a specific +3 port using the 32-column video mode.

You need an PCW emulator (software) and an video interface (hardware) at least.

Thanks guys. I already have a PCW but this is interesting to know that its software can work unmodified on the +3. [emoji106][emoji973]️
