Title: PCW 8256 Monitor Fault
Post by: P5ychoFox on 16:39, 13 June 14
On turning on my PCW after a few months - nothing happened.

Aside from a faint hum and a brief green flash when pressing the power button, the screen stays dark.

I've tested all fuses, fitted a new power switch and tested a backup circuit board I have but the problem persists.

The tube has a dim red neck glow so power seems to be getting to the monitor.

Anyone have any ideas of what to try next?

Sounds like the HT transformer died or there's a crack/break in the HT cable. Be very careful when checking this internally. The first easy test to do is the static test: Hold your arm very close to the screen glass when it's turned on. If you can feel the static lifting the hairs on your arm you have HT, if you don't then either the HT transformer or the cable to it has broken.

Thanks Bryce. I have a replacement power board already so will slot that in once the faulty board (and the monitor) have discharged.

I've slotted in the new power board and the PCW is working perfectly again.  :)
