I love how the British 464 could interface with not only one, but actually two disk drives without any additional hardware. Us peeps from the continent had to do with that dreaded DDI-1 interface hogging at the rear of the CPC :(

PS: Ordered by copy 5 minutes ago
I'm not so sure about that, owning a 464 in Ireland, I can confirm that UK 464's needed that as well. The other port was for printers.
Edit: It also didn't have the AMSDOS ROM built into the machine to handle any disk drives, which is why you needed the DDI-1. Inside the grey box that connected the drive to the machine, resided said ROM. Unless you had a 664 ROM plugged into your 464, no drive would be picked up.
*Cough, cough* 😂😂😂
He also said "without additional hardware". DDI-1 is additional hardware no?
Or did I miss something?  :-[ :-[
Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

Gryzor

Yup, the cover😄

To be more precise: the cover shows a CPC 464 with no DDI interface but two DDI drives - one stacked on top of the other - to the left of it.

You had to go and ruin it😁

My altruistic side won me over, it just couldn't handle the anxiety.

I was amused about the fact that in the picture, the disk drives were not connected to the CPC at all. So I turned that into an elaborate online prank ;-)

On a more serious note: I also kept my Multiface II leaned against the monitor most of the time so it was safe from tear and wear.
** My website ** Some music

My hardware: ** Schneider CPC 464 with colour screen, 64k extension, 3" and 5,25 drives and more ** Amstrad CPC 6128 with M4 board, GreaseWeazle.

What's about a contest, who dicovers the most funny/wrong/strange/shocking details in the cover picture ;D

I don't think we will find more details. Apart from the joystick cable.

- the missing power and monitor cable
- Gazza II GX4000 cartridge
- Vespertino - which  is neither released nor (probably) will run on a plain 464

For a few seconds I was not sure if that is a picture puzzle where you have to find the inconsistencies ;-)

Gryzor

Cable could be underneath (noticed it myself). The other two are most probably tongue-in-cheek.

I honestly love this pic, wish there were more like this from the artist...

Me too. Great picture.

It's like a true 80s computer desk - but with some 2022/2023 additions - and it doesn't matter that some cables are missing or some things don't exist. It's just awesome. It was just for a very short time, that I was not sure if it maybe was intended to have tiny little inconsistencies on the picture - just to make people look at the title for a bit longer.

The Amstrad Addict #1 cover enters seriously in competition with one of my favorite all-time wallpapers ;-)

Back to the topic of the magazine itself, I have a question for you @CrookieMonster : do you plan a second issue of Amstrad Addict? Were the sales/initial reception "good enough" to you, were you expecting more readers, etc.?

Cover picture?

Who would put a CPC6128 at the wall while using a 464 with tape only?
Not in my Technodome  ;D

However, it's great reminder to commercial magazines though.  :)

Pre-sales have been better than expected and there is always a chance of second issue. I have lots of ideas and there appears to be much enthusiasm for the magazine. I love the CPC to bits (and bytes) and the support from the community and this Wiki (thanks @Gryzor) has been amazing.

I may regret this but...

May have something to do with sales having a head start on a year, and the 464 costing less.
The coloured keys were a good marketing idea too, same with the 664. The 6128 and the plus machines looked like bland business machines.

The 464 could be expanded to have RAM and a disk drive, this you know.

Some see the 464 as an inferior machine. I don't. I see it as it's flagship machine. Not everyone cared about more RAM and faster loading times. It was a machine you could keep in your bedroom without having to fight for TV time for.

If you were into programming and development as opposed to gaming, then I can see how an opinion will differ. But then, I never saw a 6128 on Eastenders either. :D

The 464 was awesome. Still is, I have two of them, and a 464plus (There is *no* such thing as a CPC Plus!)

Yeah, I tend not to go back to post 1 on forums... the very few left that I read. So yep, I had forgotten!

Who would have thought we'd have two quality dedicated Amstrad magazines (this and Amtix) in 2023! Something quarterly or annually like this would be amazing!

The impression I get from David is that this is very much a labour of love. If we can support this on the ground level and keep the support going, this could well be a regular thing.
The Amstrad fanbase, like the machine itself was, and still is very underrated because of being the last on the block. But just look at what the Amstrad has done between 2013-2023 alone. :)

Just wondering, if those who bought a hardcopy, paid for international P&P ... could have access to PDF as well? Would be grate to read it "on the go" .... and not risking to harm 'MY PRECIOUSs'  :D
