Great to hear the contest is open again!

Do you know if they accept donations towards the prize fund? I can't see any mention on the site.

As a public University, there is no way in which we can legally accept donations that doesn't cost an intense pain in bureaucracy. We obtain money for prizes from cassette sells and we accept some forms of sponsorship: sponsors give the money prizes directly to winners, without passing through the University. By now, that's almost all we can do. Either the case, thanks for your interest, man :).

Makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

I like it as well, I've even thought exactly where I can use it in my game.
It seems to be that they have worded the rules about the gesture to make it have more impact on gameplay which I think is good.
Sometimes I it seemed too easy to throw something in as a gesture without making it into something interesting that the player will notice.

I miss the BASIC category.  :)

I can only imagine that if the University didn't get many BASIC entries, they would scrub handing out awards if it meant each BASIC entry would get a prize.

I wanted to write a BASIC game, though substitute parts of it where Assembly would benefit without worrying about Libraries, I think I'm allowed to do that, through was trying to get @ronaldo opinion.
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Submissions are yet to be opened. They will probably be open on september. Don't worry, you have plenty of time to submit your game :).

You definitely can. There are no restrictions on languages or tools to be used. Only restriction is not using anything that imposes licenses or copyrights that prevent us from legally including your game in the cassette or publishing it in the website. As most of the tools don't have such legal problems, you are allowed to use almost any available tool. Certainly, BASIC+ASM is valid and encouraged. In fact, 8BP is one of the recommended libraries.

Though there is no BASIC category this year, we will probably include some kind of recognizion for #AmstradGameDevChallenge contestants that submit their games made in BASIC. Unless an sponsor wants to, there probably won't be specific prizes for BASIC games, but some public recognizion and diplomas are on the cards :).

Note: for those of you not knowing what #AmstradGameDevChallenge is, I will add a new post explaining it :).

Only one week to go and there are definitely not enough hours in the day.

@skylas
You sound very organised to have submitted an entry already.
I still look to have an awful lot of work to do.

Not so organized, the true is that due to there is no time available in summer season because of working, the game is ready some months ago. Also, i know very few things on programming, and my games are only in Basic and they are simple, although playable and maybe enjoyable. My goal is only participation, and i find the procedure of making a game very enjoyable.
I think that you have much experience from the competitions and you will have the game done before deadline!

@skylas
Ultimately having fun with the game creation process is the main thing.
I'm not sure I can always be objective with how fun the game is in the end (I am too invested as the creator) but I aim to be happy with what I submit.

Programming like all skills is something you get better at with practice.
I'm sure I will get there in the end but probably cut some optional things before I am done.
The real question is how late will it be before I submit, the benefit of the timezone difference is I have all these extra hours after midnight. ;D

@Arnaud
I always liked your games, maybe next year.
As usual wincpctelera is invaluable to my process.

Thanks dudes, i really appreciate.  :D

I have started an adventure game in the spirit of "Aigle d'or",
but it's a lot of more difficult than i was thinking and have no much time to work on it.

@skylas
Reminds me of amsoft loading screens.

@Arnaud
That sounds challenging. I'm not sure I would try to build an adventure game or use that particular perspective unless I had spent a lot of time understanding the problem (or built a similar game on PC where I can learn everything I need).
I have considered that if I went too big or tried to make something I couldn't complete in the time whether I could swap to a smaller\simpler idea so I could submit something I was happy with but so far I haven't been unrealistically ambitious to have to do that.

Have sent in my entry for the Compo.

Unfortunately I am unable to attach a screenshot of the Loading Screen.  :(

I'll try sending it as JPEG?
