If these graphics can be produced in 64KB of code and data, could there be any hope of similar graphics on the "super CPC PLUS", obviously max 640x200x16 colours?
What hardware features would need to be added to make something like this possible?

Well, it's 64 Kb of compressed code and data, we dont know how much memory the demo needs after it's unpacked.

You haven't started the executable on you own PC, I guess? Don't hold your breath. My laptop (i5 2.4GHz -> ok, GeForce 310M -> no so good for this purpose) makes almost a slideshow out of the animation, just to give you a sense of the power you need for anything looking even remotely the same.

I just tried it on my machine (Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 3,6ghz, 4GB DDR3 1333, Geforce GTX560Ti 1GB) and at 1920x1200 it runs at about 10-15fps on most of the scenes, even slower on some of them. At 1600x1000 you can notice an increase on fps, but still I can't see why it demands so much graphics power. The fact that it is all created with procedural synthesis from a 64kb executable is great, but I've seen more impressive graphics running on my machine at way higher fps.

You said it yourself, procedural synthesis in 64kb.

Look at the fractal 4kb PC intros, same thing.

It's the miniaturisation that demands that kind of power, and they are amazing.

Nevertheless, I wished they would produce PC demos for the run-of-the-mill PC at home. It's no fun to watch a youtube video of a PC demo. Perhaps the scene parties should limit the normal PC demos not only in size but speed as well; and do a wild PC compo for the lazy PC scener who can't be bothered by memory and speed restrictions.
