Hi Everyone,

Today was the first time I had ever come across a Schneider EuroPC and it looks fantastic - I wonder how common they are and what would be involved in putting a CPC inside the cool looking case?

A: Quite common in Europe at least.
B: You'll have to hack apart the plastic at the back to get the ports to fit. The keyboard layout is also completely different, so you would need to replace or manually re-wire the keyboard.

If you are thinking of buying one to use as is, both the EuroPC and the EuroPCII had a battery in the middle of the PCB. If this has leaked, the computer is rarely repairable.

My mate had one. Memories of playing Larry Bird on it and going through the filesystem with a dual-pane file manager...

I love the form factor, I certainly would love to have one...

with a dual-pane file manager...

DOS version of Norton Commander perhaps?

No, I came to know this very well afterwards. Something with a tree on the left. And I do think NC had the option to display a tree but it was somewhat different...

Xtree?

Gryzor

Yes, must be it! And now I'm going to see what's in development with it 😊

The machine itself (not the OS...) is splendid and in impressive shape. Good pick !!

My current project is Sonic GX, a remake of Sonic the Hedgehog for the awesome Amstrad GX-4000 game console!

MacDeath

those low-specs PC-compatibles... Olivetti had some (Prodest), Amstrad somewhat tried as well, and many more here and there.

Gryzor

Well it's the form factor that does it. They were cheap too.

eto

I would say ,relatively' cheap. For a PC yes, for a home computer no.

When it came out it was more expensive than the 1040ST.

Gryzor

Yes, it's about PCs of course.
