Title: Revision 2017
Post by: toms on 12:58, 29 December 16
Revision 2017 was officially announced yesterday by the organizers! As usual, it will take place during the Easter week end (14th to 17th of April) in Saarbrücken/ Germany. You can register by visiting the party website: https://2017.revision-party.net/about/visitors (https://2017.revision-party.net/about/visitors).

Like the previous years, we can expect many CPC visitors and some CPC releases...

I'll be there ;)

I'm also very tempted to go... I've never been to big coding events such as this one, it should be interesting. How do you people usually go there? How many CPCists were there last time?

I will be there and I will release (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/demos/logon-system-will-release-a-new-demo-at-revision-party-easter-2017/).

Some seats might be available in my car on that road:
Montpellier>Valence>Lyon>Dijon>Nancy>Sarrebruck
(PM me - no msg here please)

@Targhan (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=110) : according to my memory, Beb, Hicks, Ultrasyd, Eliot, BSC, Kangaroo, Optimus, Octoate, Prodatron, and I visited Revision last year. OffseT, Zik, Doz, Exin, and Factor6 are also used to come.

As far as I know, french people usually come by train...

Ten years after Croco Chanel 4, I would be very glad to meet you again Ghan! :)

Wow, cool to read who is coming this year!!
Just registered right in this moment! :)
I will be there as usual and I hope/am sure that Octoate and BSC (and MaV?!) will join again as well.

In 2015 and 2016 we weren't able to have ONE cpc table. It was always the case that the german/austrians were located at another place than the french and UK guys. Maybe it's possible this year to organize it in a way that we are sitting close to each other.
I am always already there when they open the doors, and then it's always a little fight to get good seats :) Not sure when you other guys arrive, but maybe we can manage something?

Looking forward to eastern! It seems, that this year the Revision will be a very nice CPC event! :)

We are coming at friday and usually stay until monday (though last year BSC and me already left during sunday TBH - not sure how it will be this year - most stay until monday).

PS: Octoate and BSC registered as well :)
PS2: Would be really cool to have a big CPC table this year :P

Cool, will be great to see you this year! :) (+ TotO, Made etc, what a cool big meeting this time!)
Usually it's possible to reserve some places in advance when someone is there since the beginning (like me).
We just have to take care that some people are there already at the beginning to have a "legal" reason for occupying enough table space :) We will do our best, but the question is, at which time you guys will arrive?

Just another info:
We area usually booking the...

Mercure Hotel Saarbruecken City

The cool thing is, that there is a shuttle bus from the party place during the night, which is driving multiple times, and this hotel is the first stop.
So if you don't want to sleep next to your CPC below the table at the party you may have a look at this :)

Quote from: phi2x on 21:13, 03 January 17I'll be on the TGV 9551 arriving at Saarbrücken on friday at about 11am.
Usually we arrive at about 11:30 in Saarbrücken. They should open the doors again at 12:00 (+ some delay). Maybe it make sense to pick you up at the railroad station or we meet directly at the entrance (it also depends on our car and if you are with multiple people).
As more people we are at 12:00 as more additional tables we can reserve without getting into troubles with other visitors :D I try to persuade Octoate to be on time this year, so we can prepare a huge CPC area this year :)

Most of time, a lot of seats are already reserved by "famous" PC groups. You can find sticker on tables with their names. (very democratic)
If Someone find a tricks to do the same :) :) :)

Not too close from the big screen because we'll have ears damage.(I'm not a Nightcluber)
Not near the entrance, because we'll also have ears damage and being cold.

Perfect place are in the middle, in front of screen...
... with someone providing booze and feet massage. :)

Hi guys, I'm new here... I just found my father's old CPC464 in my parent's basements and it reminded me the thing I could see in 1996 when I was 7years old...
I don't know how it works but it looks cool I have no friends please take me in....

ok I am currently motivated to go too.
I don't know yet if I can reserve some of my "congés payés" for this but I will make the demand perhaps next month...
Will there be available reservations for the event by debut of next month or is it full on the first week 5 month before like a genius bar appointment ?

Quite motivated because long time since haven't been to germany (despite the event being almost france/frontier) and I quite like to see Overflow/Toto/Ast/south-east French Amstradists more than only once a year (and other amstradists more than once per life).

Also I followed the event live on internet a few time and... well... quite tempting indeed.
I love the thinking of having a band of french Amstradist trolling those Speccy/C64its from north/east europe.

And I love the thinking of drinking Weissbier unt Wursten mit cartöfelenz ab nach Rhein das ganz arshficken sein*.

anyway, it would be after the long next 3 month of Fucking** winter... will need to de-compress

So I hope you may count me in.

Would be a pleasant occasion to make some advertisement for the Alchimie 2017 as well...
:)

guess what, you'd better have the so awaited probably acclaimed 6128PLUS version of SymbOS ready for this.
Where are my rasters ?  where are my hardsprites ? Where is my cartridge version ? where is my analog-port-mouse driver ? Where are my sound DMA ? Where is my fullscreen/PCW sized screen resolution ?

it is not every often that YOU announce some (we hope decent) release and publicly announce it a lot too.
We want to vote for you... (well only me I guess)

We may even get elitist there : "was ist das ? ein Schneider CPC464 ? get off you schnitzel eater, only a real french qwerty Amstrad CPC6128 is good enough !"****

2016 was quite a CPC year with quite a lot of games prods... now some may want to be part of the real Scene, not generate only private drama scenes.

We did the same the last two times when I was at the Revision. Just use paper and scribble names on it. That way you can reserve seats for the others who come later. We arrived between 12h and 13h and our seats were right in the middle, not too far from the stage, not too close to the entrance.
The good thing is, others respect the reservations. :)

THE METEORIKS (https://2017.meteoriks.org/start) awards will be a part of this year's Revision demoparty (as always).
You can vote for the "Public Choice" award until the end of MARCH (next Friday). How about voting for PINBALL DREAMS CPC (PREVIEW) by BATMAN GROUP (and me)? I know I have! ^_^

Just follow the link above... or, perhaps this one - https://2017.meteoriks.org/start - and click on "Take Part" and "Public Choice Award"
You will need to create a SceneID (https://id.scene.org/) if you don't already have one, but make the Amstrad famous again (which seems to be what the BATMAN GROUP do best) by giving Rhino et al a Meteorik at the biggest demoparty in the world!

It depends. If most of the good seats are already occupied people won't be happy if you occupy a good place just with some papers. It is really important, that there are already some people there at 12:00 when they open the doors.

In my opinion, a preview does not deserves a vote in such contest, only the final version.
I don't think there is even an Amstrad CPC prod in 2016 which even deserves that (except maybe Futur's part of the 30yomd), but you there are for the c64

We've been there at 13h, 13:30h at most the first time, and two years ago Octoate even beat me and arrived 12:30h I think, so no damage done. Besides it's only been for our small group of people. And as far as I can remember, these aren't even the most preferred places (right in the middle), as quite a few people were already sitting in front of and behind us.

But let me rephrase that:
People at the party respect the notion that you like to sit together with your friends.

Perhaps they even nagged when I reserved the tables for us the year before. But I'm used to nagging since Austrians are masters at it. People would need to complain a lot to receive my attention. :P

What cat ?

Hard to have to compete against a data-pushing Megadrive demo that basically data streams its way through the existing hardsprites...
>:(

No wonder no good C64 demo was released this year, the competition was unfair(light).

LYNX demo wasn't bad but the colour palettes were bad it screwed the graphics in my thoughs. (greys, monocolours or brownish hues like BAD C64 meets ST graphics).

C64: few badly (un)colour graphics, attribute character effects with few sprites pushed over. and the earbleeding farts of a SID.
Also doublre scrolltext (not even fluid) so you cannot even read those shits.
TD;DR

Atari2600 had a pair of nice parts and a music somewhat passable, considering the machine, but too much texts in the end.

AppleIIgs was assassinated in my opinion.
this rare hardware obviously failed to have a proper way to rip - capture the Demo so it was all blurred and unwatchable (else a basic AtariST/A500 kind of vide).

Needless to say my rustles were giggled (and still are)

Now back from Revision 2017! It's been an absolute blast. Great people, great demos (although the PC demos >64kb were quite disappointing), not-so-good music and not-so-bad food!

Funny to think how, after all these years on CPC, I never met people like Prodatron, BSC or Kangaroo "in the real world". It is now done.
Well done to Overflow for its great demo. And watching Krusty's with one of my song on a huge screen is actually quite uplifting!

I'll definitely try to go back next year.

Holy sh.. this year Revision was just so amazing!  :o
I never want to have a Revision without a big Amstrad CPC group anymore :D It was so cool with all you french guys, it was a pleasure for me to meet many of you for the first time, you are all such great guys! E.g. having cool (javascript/hardware) talks with Phi2x and TotO, enjoing crazy presentations from Overflow, drinking beer with MacDeath, driving Taxi with Targhan after beeing drunken etc etc, what do you want more?
Really good to reserve an own Amstrad area instead of sitting widespread around in the big hall like in the past. We should definitely do this every year now! :)
Targhan already said everything, it was an absolute blast for me as well, and I hope most - or better - more of you will come next year again! :) (maybe from the UK, Spain, Greece etc again as well? :) )
Congratulations to Overflow and Krusty for your great Amstrad entries! Too bad, that the crazy mindblowing Logon's Run was mixed with a 16bit Sega Megadrive Demo, not fair at all, but of course it was the best 8bit entry anyway.

Looking forward to Revision 2018!

I made a compilation of twitch's live comments... priceless.

Those were during the Logon's entrie display.

Enjoy.

(reduced it to 8bit code because it is huge and too big to be posted here in 24bits or 32bits colours)

That british guy who accidentally mingled in looks friendly, though ..

We French sadly know too much how to deal with British and German intruders...
(personnally I try to outdrink and outspeak them, they got bored or drunk and leave... I often fail pathetically.)

Funnily the British shirt dude is not the actual sneaky briton invader, guess it was a falseflag operation.

From what I understand, this years the big C64 demos were not to be released at RAVE-ision2017 but at other contests.

To be fair(light) the oldschool category was heavily loaded by more "scene-exotic" formats I guess.
No amiga "old" dared come there.

Also Amiga need to stick to their own private wankfest in order to preserve the category ( = have a decent number or participations).

Any mundane ST demo (unless a cleverly brilliant Falcon megademo redefining its format) would have been instant-killed by most other machines beside C64.

Atari2600, AppleIIgs, CPC and Megadrive were having a titan fight, somewhat.

Truck (the bigbearsantaclausgandalf commentator from the twitch lives) was basically overclocked to the meltdown and would collapse often during the Oldschools... and it wasn't just the beers.  ;)

(great guy anyway, those comments/podcasts are great indeed)

Post Edit : how many Oliviers in the photo ?

Well that's impressive!

I look forward to the technical implementation writeup!

I'm guessing a pile of CRTC tricks (beyond the overscan) to repeat screen sections, with offsets, and abusing hardware scrolling to boot to cycle through 9/18 frames?

I'm elated that Logon System's/Overflow's won second place, especially since the oldskool compo was very, very competitive this year!

Interestingly enough, the Revision thread (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=53469) at Vogon (a retro computing forum concentrating on the DOS/early Windows era) also shows a lot of enthusiasm for Logon's run:

BTW, "Logon's run" = reference to Logan's run (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074812/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_141)?

Well done Kaptän Obvious... you saved the day once again.

:D

"An idyllic sci-fi future has one major drawback: life must end at the age of 30."
as Logons is "since 1988" they have to run to the outside of Alpha complex... but I guess it would be traitorious to our  friendly computer.
Remember, happiness is mandatory.

In our generation perhaps it is, but we're about to go the way of the Dodo much faster than any of us is comfortable with it, and the next generation is not likely to know such movies.
Anyway, I haven't seen the movie in decades, it simply isn't shown on TV anymore (if I watch at all), and you'd have to actively seek such gems out, if you haven't forgotten about it.

I'd be very curious to know how many have heard about Tricatel and what the company does? (well, yes, the French guys know, doh!)

so, wing or leg ?
can't comapre a french movie and Hollywood superprods.

Pop culture knowledge is quite dependant on whether the older generation (Us) would transmit it to their children, of whether you happen to find it on the internet.

Oh and it had the lovely Farrah Fawcet.

Considering most 70's classics are being remade, Logoan's Run may also get some well deserved remake or reboot.
I loved how it also made it into one of the best pen and paper RPG ever : Paranoia !
this one even had a CPC/computer game, but couldn't find any longplay of it on CPC actually
(Please someone to do it ? I could only find Speccy, c64 and Amiga versions' videos)

70s sci-fy/futuristic movies were somewhat always strange but interesting.
Logan's run, Zardoz, Futureworld, Soylent green, Rollerball, Alien, Statrwar, Colossus : Forbin project, Silent Running and many more..
Sorry that was all a bit out of topic.

Hi there,

I wrote a report of Revision 2017 some months ago. Initially planned for the next issue of Another World (that's why it's in French), it's finally published on Quasar Net. Just follow the link!

Nice report, thanks! It reminded me I didn't even try the arcade games and the flippers! Shame on me. Too busy coding :) .
