Buyers beware
« on: 16:01, 11 May 14 »

Recently over on facebook I made a deal with a guy to buy a Commodore 1541 II Disk Drive, it was out of alignment apparently, plus there could have been other issues too so I offered him £20 plus shipping, anyway, long story, heres the facebook messenger conversation (ive omitted names in case I get into trouble with mods etc)
Anyways, youre thoughts?

Hi Andy, are you interested in a boxed and non yellowed 1541 mk2? It is misaligned but probally an easy fix. I have a psu and serial cable with it. Looking for £30 for it.

Hi ***, might be but it would have to be about £20 really mate.  Got the parcel btw!

Ok, £20 it is but will need extra on top for post. I also have shadow of the beast on cart boxed in good condition, I wanted £30 for it, call it £45 for both?

Btw, I hope you like the stuff that arrived

Yeah, that 64 just needed the commodore key, that was why it was displaying characters like it was, the key was always "pressed", the drive however was a different story, did you notice that it rattled when you picked it up?  That was the stepper motor screws loose in the case, putting those back and aligning sorted it out so all good in the end!Not that fussed about Shadow of the beast mate but you should have no trouble at all selling that!  Do you have a UPS Access Point near you?  Ive started using them and the shop to shop service is really good

To be honest I want to keep this 1541 but cant find anyone to sort it out, how much would you charge? If not, I dont have a ups near me

I could do it *** but it would be about as much as im willing to pay for it mate, its quite time consuming!  Did you try the access point finder? UPS Locator

Just buy it then, will buy another later on at some point. There is a access point near me. Just paypal me over the money I will get it sent.

ok ***, money sent!  Im hazarding a guess the package is going to weigh about 5kg and measure 40x30x20 roughly, heres the page with the access point on it http://www.parcel2go.com/quotes?col=219&dest=219&p=1~5|40|30|20#/results

Any luck on posting ***?
26 April 16:35

Hi andy, sorry but will be on monday now. Will pay the extra to get it royalmailed to ya.

Dont want royalmail mate, stick with ups, better, quicker and cheaper. If you can get it in before 12 noon it usually gets there the day after, just drop it in the shop mate

Just send me the tracking number ***, its a simple enough request
Friday 14:51
***, im a reasonable person and have dealt on ebay/lemon/amibay for years, this is beyond a joke, still no package, no tracking/proof of postage, just prove to me one way or another that its been posted and we will draw a line under it and move on
Friday 20:05

I promise you that I sent it some time back now. I am genuine. I am the owner of **** - out of all sales of our software (been doing this for almost two years now) we have had one game that didn't reach Australia, the buyer was fully refunded. I am also a seller on eBay and have also sold on Amibay and am good for my word on both. I assure you that it was sent in good faith. I usually have a lot of receipts in my wallet, being a support worker I am always getting them for our clients. I suspect that some way along the line I have lost it or thrown it by mistake.

You had tracked the parcel on Wednesday the 7th yourself and forwarded a mail to Mat saying that it had been delivered (it hasnt), why then did you not submit the tracking as proof? Or the occasions previously when I asked for it? And now its lost??  Very convenient..  Ive sent an invoice via paypal, I would be grateful if you will at least honor that as you said you would by Friday (now Saturday)

I did get a refund on Saturday which was a relief but I cant let this go, happened over on Amibay Xmas time last year too (theres proof)

Sounds sadly familiar in regards to the Acorn software I ordered back at the start of Jan :( Very annoying but at least I got the SSD images  >:(
Numerous promises that the items have been sent but I never receive them.

Hope im not overstepping the mark here and if I am, mods, please delete this post or the topic and feel free to give me a damn good thrashing!

Well over on Lemon I called him out after he mysteriously came across another disk drive on ebay that had the same problem as the one he sold me, could be coincidence, yes that's true, but after I piped up there was no photos, even on request by others (If it isn't a 1541 II I'll eat someones hat!), he then proceeds to bury his head in the sand and pretend I'm just not there, I even offer to settle the whole thing and fix it for him (more la la la la I cant hear you etc)

I only bring this to light so you folks don't order something from him too and have to wait in day after day after day for a package that will never turn up.  I hate liars, especially when its over something so trivial.  If he had said, sorry, I don't feel like selling this anymore, here's the refund I would have left it at that, not too fussed, not like I need another anyway, its the principal that counts!

We have less disk issues with CPCs... anyway.

Those c64 disk drive were pain in der arschen, complicated, sometimes slow, had a whole computer/CPU inside...
And because it is for C64 there is a lot of crookery because money to be done.

I agree, I mean serial?  They had the opportunity to go much faster but decided on VIC 20 compatibility instead, what a mistaka da makea!
