if all the ASIC is, is a logic chip maybe a CPU isn't needed and it could all be done in a FPGA
it looks like that's how v-retro did his 40010 replacement.

I was thinking it might be something worth preserving, but at that size it's probably excessive. I'll download a copy anyway.

Yeah, can't download them off the site, it uses a picture viewer to show it and doesn't let me download the original...
