One of my absolute favorite SID tunes was the title tune for the game Warhawk. Originally named Proteus afaik, but later titled Warhawk when it was used for the game.

I just learned now, that Rob Hubbard based this tune heavily on a 1975 track by John Keating called The Uknown Planet.

Nice find! Warhawk tune is one of my all-time favs...

And here's a better video, showcasing the original next to the SID version, aptly named SID Roots :)

PS My gods, this is so seventies! The funky guitar, the trumpets, the wah, the album cover, the font...!

I first heard the Warhawk tune when I was eight on my Atari 800Xl and it became an all-time favourite.

The original is also so amazing! Rob Hubbard did a great job conevrting the tune to 8-bit formats.

Thanks for the links!

Is it my idea or does it sound better on the a8 than the c64?

For me the best version of the warhawk tune is the Atari version, followed by the Amstrad version and then the C64 version.

I think the Atari version is faster than the C64 and its instruments resemble more the original tune.

I still prefer the CPC version, followed by the 800XL.  I do not like the C64 version due to being over the top with the SID synth sound, and lacks the heavy percussive, spooky and up tempo sound of the CPC.  I think the CPC version sounds much more balanced and effective.
