Finding audio loop points with pattern recognising tools?

I've thought about this for years and years, but never actually dived further into it.

As a musician on retro platforms like the Amiga, I still make 4-channel MOD music. This is about using as few bytes as possible, and therefor it's good to use looping samples often. Especially with chords.

I've always found these loop points manually. It's a process that can literally take hours - and drive you slightly insane.

But I've been wondering, in this day and age, there has to be tools available that can analyze such an audio file (or any file really) in order to spot reoccurring patterns in order to find good loop points? So I've searched a little bit, but haven't found anything yet.

Does anyone know of such a tool?

Tagging some musicians I remember the nicks for. (Feel free to tag others).

That would be fine. But what facilities do you mean?
Though I only have Renoise v2.5 at the moment. Never upgraded because I always ended up using Milkytracker anyway, due to my interest in MOD and XM.

3.0.0 here, but I can't find the Loop tool anymore... I never used it much lately, it must have been put somewhere else... Sorry!
