That is really sad!  :( Oh well, what can he do besides trying to take it easy. I´ve never used liquid cooling myself in the workstations to prevent those problems (and because of the hot swap of components) although, of course, they scream extremely loud due to the massive amount of fans. The last one I received is barely tolerable in an office environment and it would be probably quite painful to use it at home  :-X .

I have a spare machine if you need it then  :) It is not much: a Core2Quad with 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and a Gforce 720 with 1GB DDR3, but more than enough to run emus and keep the web page running. If you are interested, let me know because I am selling it on e-bay and I would need to cancel the auction. Of course, you would be borrowing it for free :)

That's very kind of you, but I wouldn't put you through the hassle of sending it to me, then me sending it back to you. But still, really grateful!

Seriously cool people around today

Where do you live?  :) if you are in London you could come and pick it up  :D

If it's any consolation to you. The liquid should be non-conducting and non-corrossive. So it should all still work after a quick clean and a replacement cooling system.

Disconnect the computer from the mains supply, remove all the PCBs that got contaminated.

If there are any fans or loud speakers or any other components that use paper or cardboard, these have to be disconnected and removed.

Then wash each PCB with tap water. Do not leave the contamination on the boards, as this may cause more damage.

Once you are happy that all the contamination has been washed off, if you live in a hard water area, the final rince should be with deionised water (in the UK, available from car shops like Halfords). Then place the boards in a warm dry place, tilted at an angle so that the water runs off and there are no traps formed where water is trapped. Allow the boards to dry for 24 hours at least.

Reassemble back in the case. You will of course need a new cooling system. Once reassembled, power up and test.

Water and low voltage electronics don't get on when the electronics is powered up, but normally no permanent harm is done to most boards. It is a different story if the electronics is handling higher voltages (mains voltages for example).

Looking forward to summer in Somerset :-)

Actually, after washing with water, flush with lots of methylated spirits/denatured alcohol. Gets all the water out of even the tiniest spaces, dries quickly and completely, and doesn't promote corrosion.
