Took a look at it now too. Absolute great and moving movie. Thumbs up! However, the idea was taken from Tron  :o

Just saw the 2:45 hour version of Django unchained!
Excellent!

Django unchained is good you should watch all Of it! Edit - misread that you'd only watched it to 2.45 minutes .. Doh. Are there two versions ?

I LOVE Tron. Tried to get my bf to watch it with me and he FELL ASLEEP!!

The second one was okay

Brave is cute

Been waiting for Django to be 'released' online, definitely going to watch it!

Tron was very entertaining, though not a great movie or anything. The soundtrack was in a class of its own, though, definitely taking the movie one step up!

Brave was cute indeed, it's one of those movies I keep in my collection for when the girls in my family get the blues :D

Trainspotting has the greatest soundtrack of all time. This will never be topped by anything, ever!

"Rocco Siffredi in Prague 7" was a fine piece of art too.
I loved the cliffhanger, can't wait for the sequel.

I watched this today as well... I was so pleased with it, I watched it again a couple of hours later!

I really really enjoyed it, and while they are no grade A actors / voices I found that each one brought their A game - an enchanting movie and a real pleasure to watch!

(is this turning into a film thread?)

Watched Skyfall and Silent Hill Revelation this weekend. Skyfall was.... ok. Great opening titles, and it went downhill from there, the scenario being more like a stretched episode of some tv series. Totally naff and nothing really gripping or original (well, except for the "look, he's a human with a background after all!", which I'm not sure is good for the Bod brand). Just a sequence of set pieces.

Silent Hill Revelations... don't watch this if you liked the prequels or the games. I remember the first time I saw the Pyramid Head on the big screen I nearly crapped my pants, now he's just a baddie with a weird hairdo and that's that. Pffft.

Speaking of soundracks, today we're doing a screening of Mia aioniotita kai mia mera (1998) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0156794/) , once you'v seen/heard that it stays with you for ever.

Bod as any of our UK members will tell you, had a much darker background, with little known about him, other than the fact that his favourite milkshake flavour was strawberry.

For those who didn't have the pleasure of watching Bod in their early childhood, here's a taste of what you missed:

I don't get to say it very often anymore but Bod is a bit before my time  ;)

Regarding the Bond film which I saw at the iMax in Southampton when I was over in December; I'd say all Daniel Craigs Bond films have been a series of set pieces, the only difference this time was it felt more like a filler denoting a change in direction back to the original films and characters which could be a good thing. The action scenes were good and Javier Bardem is a pretty good actor which helped carry the film. Just a shame Albert Finney didn't have a bigger part.... I mean, that dude can do the lot: sing, dance, act....

Damn you Bryce, for the nth time, I thought I was long out of school  >:(

Beaker, it's interesting, we had opposite insights; I'm talking about the "back to the original" thing. Whereas the end of the scenario seems to recycle the story in some looping way, which is nice, I found the rest of the film to be anything but a return to the movies of old. Actually we were discussing how the old films were so silly, but with an attitude and tongue-in-cheek. Whereas this last effort was too serious and bleak - reminded me of the last Rambo (oh gawd) in a way.

Yeah, Bardem is always fantastic. Biutiful, No Country for Old men... Finney is bloody great too, but I guess the scenario primes him for bigger things in the next movie?

As a child of the 60's my childhood and retro memories have a slightly earlier starting date than you young ones have :D
But it also meant that I had to wait a little longer for the really cool computers to arrive.

I loved Bod, it was so brain dead that it was cool.

Hey, we watched Wreck-it Ralph last night. What a lovely, lovely movie!Ok, it had its usual Disney moments, but overall it was quite cool, and the subject was fantastic for us retro nuts. Wore a constant smile!

I've just seen Wreck It Ralph and noted that whoever wrote it was obviously a big fan of King of Kong (which strangely I only just mentioned in another thread the other day).

The owner of the arcade in the film is definitely based on the old Twin Galaxies head score keeper Walter Day (he's even wearing the referee shirt).

One of the best things is my son wanted to play Fix It Felix so I got the free iphone game and it was the first time I'd seen him play anything 'retro' and he loved it!!!

BTW:

Oh yeah, definitely - was quite probably a spin-off from the filming of Chasing Ghosts - Beyond the Arcade (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479879/).

But was classically funny none the less, and can you blame a director for seeing that the true story was Mitchell Vs Wiebe?  :)

Nice to see the clip you posted with all the nerds b*tching about it though!!!

Heh, lovely stuff indeed. Would it be possible? I would guess so - perhaps with not so much details, but we've had those similar games, Rampage and Ramparts (what a tune!)...

I watched it and saw "Road Blasters". I played that for the first time in an arcade at butlins when I was a kid. Put a few 20p/10p into that.

I remember in the same arcade, that to the right of the machine was a championship sprint machine with 4 wheels on it.

Behind me was one of those Outrun cabs with the seat that moved (50p if I remember correctly). On the other side of the room was Rastan. Behind the outrun cab to my left, it was either star wars or buggy boy. Can't remember 100%, it had 3 screens though.

I think next to "Road Blasters" was some kind of buggy game with a big mound of earth you could jump and next to that was probably Paperboy.

It was a great arcade :)

Watched Wreck it Ralph a short while back. Pretty solid animated movie and a crazy amaount of refrences to ye ol' games. Definately one ill be getting on dvd or blueray just to make sure i didnt miss out on anything (pretty sure i saw some graffitti on a wall in there but it went by so fast and i cant really get it out of my head, lol).

Remaking the "arcade game"? Mario Bros engine may work .. already has a dude with a cap and 3 rows to jump on .. but may be a bit low on hight if you need Ralph at the top. Ghouls & Ghosts may pull it of too being overscan so cant get much higher than that. Bomb Jack clearly has some great jumping but in this case i think Bomb Jack 2 actually has the closer platform jump pattern/mechanics.
