Weird french humor?
« on: 02:48, 16 April 10 »
Hi folks!

I just typed a french annex to the Arnor Utopia manual, and I found pretty disturbing how some things were translated.  ???

The guy who did the annex refers to the english manual as "booklet rosbif" and tells that if the Verify command fails, Scotland Yard is giving you a list of the differences...  :D

Is the guy really mad, or is it some kind of french humor that I don't quite get?

You can read the manual annex here.

Yes , it is French humor (some French people uses this word to speak about English people , i think English have the same type of joke (things like froggy eater and so on)).It is really a funny translation , the guy had fun with it  :D

I may add this manual is full of typical French humor, your exemples are not alone, there a lot of other , like theses :

Quote
Voilà, le principal est tapé, comme un gendarme, avec deux doigts,
(this one is great !)
Quote
Notes techniques : (pour les moustachus seulement.. hum, hum)
Quote
pour chaque nom de la liste des prétendants à l'échafaud.
Quote
ya rien à traduire c'est glassnoskvoidal.

Convert 'em for us, the google translator doesn't really do it justice.

Even though I speak french quite fluently, I never really got french humour. L'academie Francaise was very, very bad in that respect - they never taught anything about pop culture...

I like it, especially when it's sarcastic - and the French are good at this  :)

It is not easy to translate and maybe not be funny at all  :D

This one is difficult to translate as French people have a special relation with its Police. You juste have to imagine an old Policeman used to use a typewritter trying to type on a computer with two digits.

pour chaque nom de la liste des prétendants à l'échafaud.
"échafaud" refers implicitly to "guillotine" , so the designed files are like sentenced to death.

"glassnosk" can be translated as "transparence" so that it means there is nothing to translate, it's clear as transparent.

The Greeks aren´t.
Admin Gryzor erased all the nice WW2/SexualFantasies-Posts in the R-Type X thread.
I hate him for that.  :( :'(

Oh, believe me lady, I'm all for innuendos or more in an 8-bit environment, but everything has its place and time...

Shall we open an "8-bit romance" thread/forum? :)

Erased posts reminds me of the "book burning".
Each post is an art. It should be conserved for the afterworld.
It´s better to move an off-topic-discussion to the Off-Topic-Forum than to erase it.
Those posts are gone, never to return.
A big loss to the mankind.

"8-Bit romance"-Thread?
Mmmh....I´m undecided now.
How about a "8-Bit Dark Room"-Thread?
I guess, Mac "French Kiss" Death longs for it.  :-*

Yes, but having an openly schmutzig forum would be out of the question...
