I can remember seeing this advertised in computer mags.  It didnt rock my boat and from your vid Im glad I avoided it.

May I ask, is there a shadow of the beast review vid for the CPC?  IMO thats another pile of poo which I vaguely recall being raved in magazines???

Wait wait wait..... Shadow of the Beast for CPC is a good effort and a game that gremlin sold in good quantities. It's an easy to find title, proof of this


the playability is good and the animation are nice too, considering the limited amount of memory the CPC had.


The ST version is 10 times worse than the CPC version, so it's a no go for me

Well guys, "rk last" as now placed his request on the requests section for SOTB cpc version to be placed into the SGT section and banish it into the Vault of shitness, phase 1 now done, phase 2 will be me looking at it from all angles before I decide if it goes in, we shall see

SOTB wasn't bad at all.


If you want to do a REAL shit game, try Double Dragon on the c64 (if you haven't done so already).
I set up RetroPie recently to have an all in one emulation centre on a RPi with a 32GB card and played it the other day. Even the Spanish version of Double Dragon on the CPC was good by comparison!


Between that and Chase HQ, C64 users really were the definition of those who drank their own kool-aid.

I like shadow of the beast for CPC, ok is crearly a spectrum port, but i like it... yes it should be in mode 0 and parallax... but... it is what we had, and its good in my opinion.

Beast on CPC was coded by Steve Marsden, a very good z80 coder. I don't understand why you absolutely want to shot down this game.


Playability = good
Graphics = coming from the speccy, ok, but they keep the original atmosphere.
Sound = the music is very nice (just compare it to the ST version, and you'll understand what i mean)
Animation = good for a CPC, there are miles of games that are worse than this one


Next, it got good review marks in the magazines, and i've never read anywhere that this game was unpleasant to play.


It was even cited as an incredible feat compared to the Amiga original all proportions kept.


So i keep asking myself : why, why sending it in the shit games category ?


I'm sorry, but i don't see where you got it's a rubbish game. If only most CPC games had the quality of this one, instead of all the shitty ports we got on this machine ?

The Amiga original looked amazing but gameplay wise you were left with a very difficult and limited game. So, to take what is essentially a 16bit only game, and then devolve it to work on smaller machines was imo a very cheeky and crafty way of fleecing the 8bit community. 

Since this topic is all about Predator, its probably best to leave the SOTB subject for another day and another thread.
