I suspect that it was a 4 colour background to make scrolling easier - the ST uses interleaved bitmaps.

Read the threads in the ST forum ;) ... you are going to love the person using the "armour squirrel" as avatar (i call him the ST-MacDeath xDDD... this post is classic MacDeath :P )

Those versions are "work in progress", the first Pacmania is an improved STe version of the original st, using scroll hardware and a bigger game playfield.

With respect to the x68000 port, a person is patching x68000 games to run in Atari (in this moment Falcon, because the nice true color mode), he started with Pacmania; but for no collision with the other Pacmania project, he continued with Galaga 88 and as you can see in the video, the "emulation" has improved a lot.

After Galaga, he is going to update the Pacmania port to use the improved code. And in this moment he is using the x68000 graphics data, with time he will convert the gfxs to st native format reducing the ram and cpu use.

Nice Vid! The only thing disturbing me is that strange animal/insect being displayed on a white square. WTF?
That disturbes the whole feeling.

Can't wait to meet the AmigaMacDeath then... ;D

Except this ST-MAcDeath seems to be more qualified into coding than me... but yeah, he makes nice mockups and explanation pictures...

Gryzor

Damn I want a Falcon... :(

As for ST emulators, haven't tried Hatari in ages. I always preferred STeem because it was so nicely geared towards gaming, but of course it fell behind after so many years. Thankfully some guys picked up the source code a couple of months back so we might see new versions.

Ah, the PacifiST days... :D

Probably the emulation hasn't implemented the transparency of a graphics overlay (or sprites in a particular sprite rendering mode) correctly?
Or does the original have that large green/white square as well?

I don't know about coding, but we love all your mockups and explanation pictures ;)
