I was never a N fan, but I could not refuse an early birthday present! So I was given a NDS AND a Wii.

The NDS came complete with an Acekard 2i (will updating the DS firmware affect its functionality?), while the Wii came with FW 3.4e and shows BootMii on the wallpaper (but have no idea as yet how Wii hacks work, the more I read the more confused I get). As Douglas Adams would say, "oh ah".

So, what should I try? I'm excited to play House of the Dead on the Wii, but other than that I never followed their releases - so, any titles of retro interest to fire up?

Cheers

GBAtemp is a good place to go to get all your flashcard info.

And of course, you can play the original Subtera Puzlo

Subtera Puzlo - Files - Nintendo DS - Games - PDRoms – Homebrew for you! -

Gryzor

Oh! Subtera Puzlo. Fantastic :)

As for gbatemp.net, I'm there right now - JUST got the USB loader for Wii to work, dammit...

Thanks :)

So, finished House of the Dead Overkill with my girl, great fun indeed! Going to go for 2 and 3 now.

But, any other retro-related stuff???

robcfg

Hehe, Overkill is indeed a great game despite many flaws and quite underrated, I feel.

I also play it with my girlfriend, we love the Ballistic Trauma level!

Collect your point blanc prescription!!  ;D

Do you mean retail games with a link to older titles, or are you talking about emulators etc?  I cant help with emulators because I've never bothered with firmware hacks.

For retail games on the Wii, well, most Nintendo releases are retro related.  ;)  But if you've never played the original versions it wont mean much I guess.  For what it's worth though, Donkey Kong Country Returns & the Metroid Prime games definitely 'felt right' to me having played them on the SNES.  As for Sega retro related games, I think HoTD Overkill was probably the highlight as far as I was concerned.

On the DS I did come across this game called Glory Days 2 that was a bit of fun, though flawed.  Although not retro related, I couldnt help but warm to it as it reminded me a lot of Wings of Fury!

Optimus

For Wii, if you are playing with your girlfriend or friends, many titles that are great for having fun with many people, like Wii Sports of course, Mario Party, Wii Party, then some Mario Kart and whatever I can't remember. But try those, those are great games to play with other people!

I also find several nice games in WiiWare market (which I think you can copy titles instead of buying if your wii is hacked), personally I played retro remakes like Contra or Castlevania or Gradius Rebirth, oh and also there is a port of Cave Story which is great arcade platformer.
And yes, with the hack, tons of great homebrew emulators. SNES plays much faster even SuperFX games on the Wii than in my Gamepark Caanoo, there is also a PSX emul that speed is almost good.

DS is also one of my favorite handhelds for gaming too. Lot's of stuff there, but I was always a fun of Castlevania series in Castloid gameplay style.

@Robcfg: We had played the original HOTDII in the arcades extensively during a vacation many years ago, and she adored it. I was trying to find a way to play it at home ever since, but you would need a system with the title on it, gun support *and* a CRT TV (I had the Dreamcast original, but even on my 100Hz CRT it was a no go). So many moons ago someone here suggested the wii... and finally I got one. Oh, downloaded the awesome soundtrack tomorrow :)

@Axelay: I mean retro-related in general, but you hit the nail on the head here: I don't care very much for Nintendo stuff... Glory Days 2 looks really lovely, will take a look for sure!

@Optimus: thanks for the suggestions, will try out all of them. Already have Wii Sports, tennis was fun at least :)

Gryzor

Ahhh what was that game with the Maracas on the Dreamcast? That was so damn silly and funny!

Samba de Amigo.  Was ported to Wii too!

Gryzor

Ah yes of course Samba de Amigo! I was sure it would have been ported to the wii, pity to read that control is not as good as on the DC (still have the maracas somewhere!)... But still, I'll try to locate it. Thanks!!

Gryzor

Cool, after I burned my acekard (Bad advice I took - upgraded the DSI's fw to 1.4.5e...) I just received my r4i3DSblahblablah card. Works like a charm.

Now, to find a ROM package... anyone knows a *ahem* source?
