Some new Amiga mods from me
« on: 20:12, 07 October 19 »
Back in the day, I used to create a lot of Amiga mods. Then moved onto much more channels.

Recently I've been looking into MODs again, mostly because it's the only kind of project I have time to actually complete. But also because I've actually sold at least 30 licenses for MOD files on IndieGameMusic.com - and such things are of course motivating. I don't know what it is about MOD that gamedevs like. I would have thought XM would be more interesting, but apparently not.
I think it's partly because many of the old platforms can handle MODs. One of the gamedevs who's bought licenses from me is working on a game for the Atari Jaguar for example.

So here are some recent Amiga mods I've made, to anyone interested. mp3 versions available for most of them.

"Final Break (Secession III)" - https://indiegamemusic.com/viewtrack.php?id=4101
"Amiga" - https://indiegamemusic.com/viewtrack.php?id=4108
"Calm down" - https://indiegamemusic.com/viewtrack.php?id=4124
"I won!" - https://indiegamemusic.com/viewtrack.php?id=4125
"New code" - https://indiegamemusic.com/viewtrack.php?id=4137

Listen in full stereo, meaning 100% channel separation.

Well my previous track only got to be on the site for a couple of days before I sold a license, and such things always inspire me to make more tracks.  :)

So here is "Spooky Dungeon" - https://www.indiegamemusic.com/4609

Recently I learned that the official Nintendo 64 SDK supports MIDI+soundfont, so in my quest to support as many (retro) platforms as possible, I've started making MIDI+SF2 versions of my tracks too.
Any other interesting formats I should look at? Import the MOD version into Arkos Tracker 2 and make a CPC version too every time?  ;D

Weird thing about "Spooky Dungeon": I almost didn't put it online because I didn't think it was anything special, and I wasn't quite happy with it. But I did anyway, and then I got the most positive feedback from everywhere I've gotten in a long time.
Lesson learned: Don't decide yourself if your creative works is good or not. That's for other people to decide.

What does the opening melody remind me of? I can't quite place it....
Enjoyed the track, the bass was epic with headphones on.

No idea.  :)
But good luck producing anything nowadays that doesn't remind someone of something.  ;)
Thanks for the positive feedback!

Remember the old days beginning with Sountracker down to Future Composer and all that stuff, recently playing around with MilkyTracker on OS4, lots of fun but I nearly get no mod finished

I'm using Milkytracker, despite actually buying Renoise some years back.
I just find the challenge with the limitations more fun, and I also prefer being able to create and offer the oldschool formats rather than just mp3.

Thanks. Yea, any kind of interest in my music is a great motivator to make more music.  :)
And it's also very interesting: I sometimes put tracks on IGM that I don't think is anything special, but then ends up becoming some of the most popular tracks of mine.
Just proves that you shouldn't judge your own stuff yourself. Just put it out there, then let gamedevs decide.

And yet another track!
"Rise" - https://indiegamemusic.com/4632

Not sure what's going on these days. I haven't been this active and inspired for 20 years. I used to be very active with the music up till year 2000. Then I had a 5-year long forced break, due to school and such. Never thought I'd be productive like that again.
Of course it helps that it's the summer holidays....  ;)

Have actually thought about including an AKS version of my tracks too, as well as a Sega Genesis one.
Arkos Tracker 2 can import MOD. Then "just" edit instruments and such from there.

But I gotta draw the line somewhere.  :)  Otherwise you can keep going forever.
It takes a lot of time to make these conversions, despite having tools that does most of the work. And while I actually get requests for MOD files from both Amiga and Atari devs, so far only single CPC dev has requested an AKS, and then found out he didn't want Arkos Tracker 2 format.

So I feel my current workflow supporting MOD, XM, MIDI+SF2 is good enough.
I used to make plain MIDI versions too, but since J2ME died no one has been interested in those anymore.
