Good points - Runs well under Linux via Wine. Sounds good.
Bad points - Rather unplayable on the keyboard, keys clash when doing diagonals+ctrl.  Haven't tried a joystick yet...  Also fails to restore the video mode on exit, but this is more likely an issue with Wine.

I think that the keyboard problem is also being caused by Wine as it seems fine on my Windows pc.

Don't think so, up+right+ctrl has never worked for me in any program.  A key redefinition option would be nice.  But like I said, I'll try a joystick with it (eventually).

sigh

I love the arranged soundtrack on the 2nd level. Some nice sound effects too.

Indeed, the sfx give it a whole new air.

The opening motorcycle is quite difficult!

The first time I've tried it I lost two lives in the motorcycles area! Ugh!!!
The game is based on the Spectrum version and iirc once I tried to play the original Spectrum version it had the same problem. You need to do an air kick with very precise synchronization with the motorcycles. On the CPC if the synchronization is wrong then both you and the motorcyclist fall down but here (and maybe in the Speccy version too, don't remember) you fall down and then you have to face the same challenge. Now there is this annoying thing that spoiled it for me but on the next replay (and more lives in options menu) I managed to get passed the first level with all the motorcycle challenges and the rest of the game is much easier and fun.

I like remakes that revamp the gameplay and eliminate some of those annoying points in the originals. Once I was playing a Zub PC remake without knowing the original in Spectrum or CPC. It was amazing and then I tried just for historical reasons to play the CPC version (and then the Speccy too) because I thought I might have missed a good game. It was awfull!!! You fell off the platforms so easily and you couldn't control the jumping. What I want to see, the good remakes would enhance graphics and sound but should also eliminate (except from only enhancing) the gameplay elements that made it so bad in the original (and those elements were forgetable in the past when there was nothing better, but now we have a modern remake on PC that should be more open for the casual players)

Other than that, best thing in the remake is the music and sound effects (I didn't like the wannabe retro graphics, they look ugly, I prefer original graphics or well revamped newschool graphics), even if they kept the old motorcyclist collision, at least I think some things are new, fists are fast, when you hit you hit 2 or 3 or more enemy sprites at once (like modern beat em ups) and more than 3 sprites at the same screen and different sprites I don't remember. Weaps are always the same iron bar, why? I do remember in speccy version 2nd level there was a mace (which I found cool even if it's again a weapon in a stick) instead of chain on CPC. But now it's mostly an iron bar except from the hammer and broken pool pike with shorter length like the bar. Why? I like that we see the pistol guy three times in the 2nd level. Sprite AI is more chaotic which is cool also because the pistol guy might try to shoot you and another guy walks in front and eats it. Final boss was easier this time (I remember in the speccy too, once I tried to finish it, ugh I lost 3 lives. He does the move where he grabs you and eats your life, but in spectrum when I stand up again and tried to move away, he locked into me again. What? And for the third time!), despite the motorcyclists the rest of the game is fun and can be finished easily enough.

I also sense some kind of bad quality. First from the not good graphics, but also the intro plays too fast on me, I can't read the text. Then I had to press mouse(!) to pass the screen between stages fast (I also accidentally pressed escape, not asking me if I want to quit the game, it exited, ugh!). It's not a bad remake but kind not so polished as it should imho.

Finally, tried with a joystick attached - controls are fine, so definitely a key clash there.  Much easier to deal with the motorcycle guys when you can jumpkick forwards. :)

I've got to just point out that the graphics are re-drawn and recoloured from the Spectrum version so they are not wanna be retro graphics :)

Actually I like the gfx quite a bit. Not very retro, somewhat polished, but not too modern either. All in all it does look very nice.

It depends on the user who plays the game.
Some find it very cool, others not.
Playing a remake-game is like using an emulator.
Some like it, others not.
Some want also a feature B,C,D, others are happy with the features contained.

It is difficult to fulfill all wishes.
