QuoteAfter the recent success of the new coloured cases and keycaps for the C64 such as blue, black and red, it probably wouldn't surprise you to know that new case molds are also being created for the Amiga. Although this was mentioned a few days ago, we decided to wait and see if this project was actually coming and not just a rumour. Sure enough through our Commodore Amiga Facebook group of over 10,000 members, Philippe Lang has announced new Amiga case molds and also the possibility of different colours!

QuoteWhen I was growing up one of the computers that really sticks close to my retro gaming heart was the 90's Amiga, from the A500 to the A1200 both of them such incredible computers that it pretty much made me the gamer I am today. So it would come as no surprise to you I also have many original games plus an original A1200 system ready to be played. But this is where our attention is drawn, to the latest New A1200 Computer Housing Project Kickstarter by Philippe Lang, which is set to take the retro gaming scene by storm!

what about some ideeas for the cpc case, other collor ?
can you show also the cpc in different collors ?

Sorry for the blasphemy, but...

If I look at this keyboard then it looks my PC keyboard, just with less F-keys. The Blue color is gorgeous, but ... what else is so special about it?

I think that the case is nice because it is adapted to modern times but is classic as well. However the project does not have so many bakers...

I'd love a Plus machine in the same charcoal grey as the original CPC's. (Or even matt Black) something about that woeful Sinclair PC200 looked really nice in a black all in once type case.

I was never brave enough to try and spray my yellowing 6128plus black, (Or dye it) although I think the result could be amazing.

As CPC users we tend to forget that other computers weren't made as robust as our beloved CPC. It's rare to see any physical damage (other than a few scratches) on a CPC case, at worst they are dirty. Other systems aren't as lucky. I don't think I've ever seen an Amiga case where at least the tabs had broken off or other damage. As if that wasn't bad enough, they go yellow too. So I think it's good that they look at doing new cases for these, but I don't think the CPC scene has any need for something like this.

Maybe it's time for the Amiga users to quit their old broken hardware and upgrade to a 6128 Plus.  ;) :) :) :)

I think that the computers with the worst cases are, by far, the Silicon Graphics. It is better not to mention how delicate an O2 can be, because it will probably break just because you are talking about it (the same can be said about the Octane, the Fuel...). The plastics turn really really brittle over time. I have one in the lab and I love it, it is my default Unix terminal, but I went through hell replacing the plastics and restoring it.

My A1200's a little yellowed maybe but nothing's ever broken off it no matter how many knocks it's had.  Still works perfectly too.

Even the case clips on the inside? I though they broke of as standard when you open it, just like our cartridges?

I've had my CPC 6128 for nearly a year now and no fading of the colours, the Amiga however is starting to tinge yellow even with it covered up! Case wise it's fine with no damage. I did however notice that the 464 and 6128 plus models also suffer as the Amiga does with yellowing.

Some Amigas tend to yellow quite a lot. I have one in Spain that is barely used and it is basically like a lemon by now. The funny things is that, although it is second hand, the first owner never used it and kept it in the dark, same as I did. The Amstrad Plus does not behave so extremely bad, but it depends on the machine. Some stay white forever, some others tend to become yellow. I guess that the cases are made from different batches of plastic. I have a 464 Plus that is as white as the first day, however, one of the 6128 Plus is definitely more yellow than the other two. At least, the plastic does not become brittle over time, and that is great.

Bryce

I have an A500 that could be used in a toothpaste advert, but I also have had some that looked like they had been used for years by a chain-smoker. In my experience, if they don't start going yellow within the first few years, then they never will. It probably has something to do with how the plastic was mixed and the amount of Bromine used. UV light accelerates the process, but they can also go yellow even if they were stored in the dark.

I bought my 6128 Plus in 1992 and the sun never shines at it, so it's as nice as at the first day.  :)

same here Craig, i don"t like the white case of the cpc plus but i love the charcoal grey as the original CPC's ! the withe cases are remember me of the old times when most of the PC"s were white !
Before we collor some CPC cases, can anybody color them virtualy, with Photoshop  ? :)

I am one of those that try to do the moddings in the less intrusive possible way because I like to keep the old computers as they were made (if possible). However, I agree with you, a black or antracite case for the Plus would probably look amazing.

TFM

Now we all seem to like the dark CPC keyboard. But back the day is was a major issue for people not buying it. Of course not much people here will share this opinion, because else they wouldn't be here today.

I think that people considered the not white computers something not serious and unprofessional... well, maybe the 464 was "a bit" too colorful back in time (I am talking about the keyboard) but the 6128 was quite serious and fine. Not as serious as an IBM, but still  :)

The thing that stops me doing it is the Keyboard. Not sure how well a white keyboard would go with a Matt Black Plus

Well, yes, it's all psychology. When I got my first computer I didn't know a bit about it of course. It was a CPC by accident - and I never changed that.  :P  Actually I have my first ever CPC keyboard even with me in the USA.  ;)  And still everything is working just fine - after 30 years!  :) :) :)

I'll try to do it with a photo of a 6128+ in photoshop tomorrow.

Don't do any dyeing (is that right) just yet  :D
