Does anyone know an older Linux 16 bit distribution? With desktop?
I will try to add it, too...

Minix is older than Linux and comes in a 16bit form. What sort of Desktop is available for it I'm unsure, though cause it's got a long history, I'm guessing there would be something available for it and since you've spoken of Windows 3.1, you should check out Digital Research's GEM 1.2 from 1985 (before Apple cripple it), cause that's also an interesting GUI Environment suitable for the earlier machines like the XTs and PCs I think it also ran on!  ;D

Hmmm I think there's no way...
I am using DosBox for Java ;)
And as its name is called: DOS only...
It's not possible to "boot" into another OS...

But many games work nice:
Duke Nukem 3d,
Doom 1,
Doom 2,
Monkey Island 1+2

If you want, ask me for the links (Because much traffic I dont post them here)

Ahem. It was you who asked for a 16-bit linus.  ::)

Sure... But then I tried a Linux boot image. (Just the console)
And this failed because DosBox starts with the dos prompt... :-X

You can definitely boot Linux from DOS as I used to do it back in the day.

Slackware let's you do it, think ZipSlack did it straight from the box as well.

Ohhhh crap! Creative Mixer! Brought back... well, not so many memories. I hated the guts of 3.x and used DOS most of the time, till 95 came about. Still, very nice. Is it really Windows or a program emulating it?

Which is why 3.1 is far better with the Free Calmira 2 shell.

Here you go: Win31 with Calmira shell:
http://retropower.eu/dos.php?file=windows31&boot=autoexec.bat&width=800&height=600

Pretty impressive you've been able to do that!  ;D  Unfortunately my computer's a bit sluggish with even the simple applications, otherwise it's neat and worth the loading time wait!  ;D

I've attached a Screen Dump just to show what Win3.1 looks like with Calmira 2.

Further suggestions, I used to have Win32s which allowed you to play Freecell. Early versions of Borland's Delphi (version 1 and 2 I think) was a good language if that's worth doing (making little Frontend programs with Pascal code behind them!  ;D ).

you have managed to replicate my 'Fujitsu LifeBook B-2154'!
It's a 486 laptop (with a 2Gb CFCard for a HDD, so it runs silent).  It boots into MS-Dos 6.2.2 and has win3.1 setup along with Borland Delphi 1 and Borland Turbo C.  I mainly use it to play Doom / Wolfenstein / old DOS games but recently I've installed CPCE that it boots directly into.  Boot time of about 5 seconds that goes straight into fullscreen Amsdos - confuses a lot of people  8)
The only downside is that I couldn't get the sound to work...

Gryzor

Had no idea about Calmira. Awesome. But kind of useless?

Well, a few games for you:
Wolfenstein 3D:

Lure of the Temptress (German):
http://retropower.eu/dos.php?file=lured&boot=LURE
Lure of the Temptress (English):

The Settlers 1:

Dune 2: (German)
http://retropower.eu/dos.php?file=dune2&boot=dune2

Make suggestions which I should install, too...

Awwwwesome! :)

Wolfenstein 3D was the title that made me start thinking about buying a PC, when I played it for hours on end on my friend's 386SX while I had a 1040STFM...

Btw, Lure needs a cd first, it doesn't autorun.

Yeah, I saw it too, sometimes it just jitters around for some reason... got to alt-tab to fix it.

Devilmarkus

Took me hours to install a working!!! Windows 95 image.
Works nice with DosBox but sadly the Java JDosbox is not good enough (yet) to play it... :(
