It looks that the speccy guys are going to have a lucky end of the year, Speccy Vega... maybe one day we'll see a CPC Aldebaran, hahaha, although in our case is not going to be a console pad :P... @ralferoo shows us the light in 1080p... with R3 scroll of course ;)

Sykobee (Briggsy)

Heh, it's just an emulator on a cheap microcontroller/SoC (probably ARM) and some controls, in what looks like a 3D printed case (so far).  At least they've licenced the names and so on.
The C64 DTV was far more interesting, being a custom ASIC that re-implemented the C64 (even exposing the expansions on the pcb) with some enhancements.

OTOH, being an emulator system, there's nothing stopping them adding CPC, etc, capability for it.

Maybe a better name for CPC would be CaPriCorn

I read too fast @Sykobee (Briggsy), i though it was another ZX Uno (a nice zx fpga clone made by a spanish friends). But certainly, it's a good move that they are trying to get the licences in everything :)

Indeed!!! :) I like it!!! :D :D :D

ralferoo

I'd be surprised if it's "just" an software emulator on a SOC as Chris Smith has been working on his FPGA Harlequin emulator for quite some time now and he's one of the project leads.

Also, it's a bit strange to have so few keys, especially when they don't include J and ENTER! :D

Looks rubbish to me. Almost as bad as that joke of a bluetooth keyboard project which is either late or dead.

Here: Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega | Indiegogo

This is an interesting project, in the sense that it's a nice reimagined ZX in the vein of the c64 TV (or however that one was called).

However, the price (£100) is rather steep, and boy does that controller look totally non-ergonomic... I wonder if those keys are dead-flesh ones, too, for that extra realism :D

They really try to keep the good old traditions of Sinclair. :-) Already the second thread about this little Speccy-thingy. Seems to be very fascinating for us CPC guys.  ;D

Gryzor

Oh, I didn't see the other thread, silly me...

Yes, it's fascinating, I guess we're a bit jealous :)

I like full keyboards. :-(. Anyway lots of ZX projects and very few CPC projects

Ah, another nostalgia project. Usually they fail.
But good names behind this one.
But don't know if I would want one. Too many spent already. And not enough interested.
Maybe if it was a CPC remake? Not sure.

p.s. I just checked the price. 100 pounds? With emulator, you could connect a raspberry pi with some keyboard for half of the price. Or buy a Dingoo with TV-Out cable for 50 euros. And people argue about the keys, some games like text adventures and others. I wouldn't like a spectrum that is less than the original spectrum. I could just hook mine with the DIVIDE again and start playing.

QuoteTurning the speccy into a 5 button console-pad
Sooo missing the point and the fact it was supposed to be a computer, otherwise a shitty console.

I was just saying to another forum member that they they should have made a Three-In-One Amstrad, Speccy and C64

cpc4eva

it is gaining alot of interest for sure....

about a week or so ago on FB i was chatting to Mark Hall and told him id love to build a new cpc with backwards compatibility but also with new tech and allow anyone to code produce games for it and make their own hardwares and build their own operating systems ect etc id want it to be a real hobbyists computer like the old days and also not to forget allow online gameplay and apps !!!

CPC and c64 in one case? That's like to have a hooker and a nun as roommates at the same time. Or Einstein and Tyson. Or a T-Rex and a Bunny or...... it's against nature.

He's confirmed on another mailing list that it's just a software emulator running on ARM... :(

The nun/hooker roommates don't sound all that bad, have they got a spare room free for me? :D

But, as TFM is trying to point out, if you are going to put multiple computers in a case, then they should at least use the same processor.

Yes, they would use the ARM  :P

Oh, so it's going to be an Acorn? :D

Edit: by amazing coincidence, this is my 6502th post :D

Gryzor

I got excited when I first saw it - for a good ten seconds.

Then I realised it's only god a handful of keys, so it's really a controller.
Then I realised they went for the worst possible controller, one with rubber keys.
Then I saw the price.
And then I thought, "no way they're licensing 1000 games".

Seems really half-baked to me...

In this case, you can just stay with the PC and use all the big variety of emulators. Why downgrade to an ARM? It's not even a real CPU simulator like the C-One or the T-Rex.
