Probably there is a better way but it works ;)

How many different colors can you actually display in mode 0 and how many colors in mode 1?

Palette: 27 colors

Mode 2: 2 colors
Mode 1: 4 colors
Mode 0: 16 colors

+ border color

I would suggest to have a look into the 6128 manual as it contains a good introduction to the CPC and also the Basic.
