Title: Making Phortem reliable on Gotek FlashFloppy
Post by: Keir on 15:37, 28 January 18
Hi guys,

This question is mostly addressed to arnoldemu, who I believe did the trackloader for this 2013 demo.

I am having good reports of HFE and DSK images working on FlashFloppy Gotek on CPC, however there are a few exceptions one of which is Phortem, where the sound is apparently out of sync with the main demo.

I have some theories about why this might be, and I had hoped that some recent tweaks would fix this, but apparently not. So I would like to ask the author if there are some tight timing requirements on performance of the "floppy drive", for example requirement to get to the next track (whether that is a side change or head step) within a short space of time (or even, not within *too short* space of time  ;) ) ?

I see in the source code that the trackloader and music playing are intertwined so that both can proceed concurrently, I'm obviously breaking some timing assumptions there...

Thanks!
Keir

Good news! I'm told by Zaxon that the Phortem DSK release is working fine on FlashFloppy v0.9.8a. Happy days.  :D

The only other release I had problems reported on was 30YMD, side 3, which I think is known fragile...
