An attempt at trolling was made...

I find it sobering that such a rather simple looking game with a few sprites and only one shot at a time can't run on a cartridgeless CPC.
The cartridge seems to be the ultimate Viagra pill for the poor-fucking CPC. It seems, he can't do without.

On the other hand, games like "Star Sabre" show that you don't always need a cartridge.

Nonetheless a very nice game, no offense.

If you really mean no offence, perhaps you should try harder.

I don't know who you are but I'm going to assume that you speak from ignorance and that you are not just a bored troll.

I suggest you spend a year making a game like this one and show me how it is done the way you want it. I'll be happy to play it for free like you can play this one.
Released The Return of Traxtor, Golden Tail, Magica, The Dawn of Kernel, Kitsune`s Curse, Brick Rick and Hyperdrive for the CPC.

If you like my games and want to show some appreciation, you can always buy me a coffee.

Oh, it's just that I get pissed when everyone screams how smooth it is,
but with the benefits of a cartridge it's not a programming step up from the 1980's.

Gryzor

That... was such a weird comment. The "no offense" part was the best.

Umm... And?

Feel free to open a new thread, this one will be kept clean.

For me, the appeal of the CPC has always been that over the years it will gradually show that it is not a "failure" after all.
Just a victim of Speccy Ports.
But with a game that needs a cartridge, I can't brag anywhere.

I get pissed when people insult a well-made game by a friend of mine who's coded many great games for CPC.

You think you say jerkass stuff and then end with "no offense" and that makes it ok?

I find it mildly hilarious that, on one hand, you have people bemoaning the lack of software for 4MB RAM extensions and what have you. Then on the other hand someone makes a game that takes advantage of available memory in a cartridge and is instantly criticised for not making it squeeze into the RAM in a standard machine....

Animalgril987

And I don't think ANY of us on here consider the CPC to have been a failure. If we did we would all be on World of Spectrum instead.
Juan has put a LOT of time and effort into getting his game just how he wants, and I think it looks awesome.

This community is so ridiculous.
As soon as you don't deliver the slime of the day, but instead criticize something, you're a troll.

No, the way you posted what you posted was very much like how a troll would.  You belittled reidrac's game (that he has worked a long time on) and his choice of using the cartridge format (which he did for reasons already explained elsewhere) and then you tried to backtrack it a bit with a half-hearted compliment and ended with 'no offense' when offense had already been made.   You made no real constructive criticism.  Just insults.

Now you are acting like you were the victim in this and calling the community here 'ridiculous'.  So everyone but you is wrong?

Nobody is asking you to leave. Just to understand what you did wasn't nice or helpful.

Not only that, he chose to do it right after the game was released, in the same thread, simply not caring - and then moaning about the community.

That's an interesting request, when you consider that you criticised other (ex-)members of this forum for wanting to delete their accounts... ::)

The CPC is like many other platforms, there's a choice up front to make
Run on a 464, 128k only, or plus only. Or even, only run with extra RAM or your girlfriend's dildo plugged into the expansion bus

I don't think any of those is better or worse they are just different paths and you have to pick one
I bet Axel is pissed for other reasons, often its just how some frustration comes out. Inappropriate or whatever, it happens

Anyway I don't think the full potential of the CPC has been unlocked yet!!

Take for example a simple DRAW 640, 400. You can see visibly the line being drawn from the firmware, it must take 3 or 4 screen refreshes, like 60-80k nops. It is a perfect line but it's taking a looooong time to draw it. What could an optimised piece of code do it in? a few hundred nops probably and in the time it takes the firmware to draw one line you could draw a whole 16k screen. This is programmers heaven where optimised vs non-optimised code can make such a stella difference. On faster computers who cares because your good/normal code will run like lightening anyway. But the 8 bits present a challenge
I think that one myth on the CPC is that the screen size is too big for the CPU to handle, it's not but extreme optimisation is required and every trick known to man. The advantage of the CPC is its large bitmapped screen. Unlocking the potential of that is a real coding challenge

nah - the expansion port does not deliver enough power.

People think that is more easy to do things with help of extra expansion. It is wrong, the more easy is to do a BASIC program on a stock CPC 464. When you have a project, you have to see what is your goal and how it can be reached. For that, you have the choice to use any of the base system or expansion that can be natively plugged on it, while it doesn't replace the CPC: It is the target configuration.

I think it's basically stupid to complain about the solution a developer is reaching for. We get a game for free, good or bad, and while well intended criticism can be constructive, bitching about it is really silly.

SpDizzy

No one deserves such an unrespectful comment about his effort, time, lots of time and work for free, just to bring a new game to the community.

The same community you neither show respect to.

I guess your unlucky behaviour denote just ignorance. And your words an undisguised offence.

Bad news, don't expect someone else to manage your own things.

If you want to leave, feel free to delete your account, posts, and whatever stuff and wasted thoughts.

Simply assume the consequences of your actions, I will celebrate the decission.

No colour clashing! Play games in shades other than brown! Woo-hoo!
But shame about the framerate.

See I'm not pissed off with the new game Hyperdrive, it's a very nice game.
I'm pissed off by the CPC. All these many years I believed in him too rebelliously.

I beg your pardon. It's my personal frustration.
