Ok, so as I'm currently self unemployed, i find myself with a few free spare hours. So I'd like to use this spare time (cos I really wanna get back to work soon) to learn something about the CPC. The question is, I don't know what I need to learn, or what I need to get.

Basically I'd like to be able to use an assembler to open loaders or game code to be able to meddle around with it, ideally to help contribute to converting dsk to cpr. I'm the kind of guy who thinks he can learn anything as long as I put my head to it, and I've put this off for too long.

So my questions to you guys is, what should I be learning, what do I need and where do I start?

Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

For your purpose, get familar with the excellent WinApe debugger, learn to use the different breakpoint types & single stepping.
A z80 manual and the firmware guide (ie. http://www.cantrell.org.uk/david/tech/cpc/cpc-firmware/ ) that should be a good start.

Cheers! Already have WinApe on a virtual machine so can check that out. Basically going in as a blind man with no prior knowledge, so I'm looking forward to the challenge.  :)

You should read Phil Howard's - Insider dealing - article in Amstrad Action no.45-52.
Interesting reading.
