It's been a long time, but I think this is only a shell level block on NT based OS, i.e. Explorer or the Common File Dialogue). Directly creating files via the API and it'll just let you do whatever.

That's because it's not really a "security" thing, it's just trying to stop you getting into a situation where weird things happen if you run a command line task (either directly or via some GUI tool that just shells out to command line utilities).

I think it was different on DOS based Windows, because there things were more closely tied to how the command prompt works. NT doesn't really care, the command line is just an application like everything else.

No I didn't try anything. Yep 64 bits would be overkill!

Quote from: JohnElliott on 23:50, 26 March 24Interesting that your MAIL232 is an older version than mine. I wonder what the difference is?
Answering my own question: When transmitting / receiving files (and echoing them to the screen) MAIL232 1.0 clears the screen beforehand and redraws the normal screen at the end. MAIL232 1.2 does it all in the same terminal window.

There's also a 1.1. The copy I have has Spanish menus, but apart from that it seems to be almost the same as 1.0 with maybe a bugfix in the 'Life' easter egg.

1.0 is actually larger than 1.1 and 1.2, because it contains a never-printed message reading "Only nosey buggers delve into other peoples programs!" and that's enough to increase the file size by an extra 128-byte record.

I don't know the exact composition of this team, but I know that the team of people created by Jay Miner made Atari VCS, Atari 800, Amiga, Atari Lynx and 3DO. They had tended to extend the project time, exceed the budget, don't listen investors, overestimate the value of their work and blind belief that they are the best. In my opinion because they smoked too much. And the fact that two of these projects turned out to be successful is the exception rather than the rule.
And Jay himself was such a visionary that the Amiga CDTV he valued the most was the biggest flop, and the one of which he was the biggest enemy and did everything he could to block A500 model, turned out to be the biggest success.
3DO was supposed to have many manufacturers to make it cheaper, but it was the most expensive console in history. Jay died between the American and European release of 3DO.

Did you get somewhere with Wren? If I understand correctly, the data format is "evrything is a 64-bit floating point value", with normally unused bits in NaN values to represent non-floating point things.

But I didn't look to see if the languga could be separated from this implementation, and be implemented in a maybe more compact way.

MBasic is running now! Prevtenet just reported another progress :)

We added direct BIOS call support, which is used by MBasic, and now another step has been done.
The new CCP has been added as well!
