I am pleased to share a formal v1.0 release of CP\/M, which may be downloaded at the temporary link: https://github.com/danielgaskell/CPvM/raw/main/cpm/cpvm_1.0.zip. Run classic CP/M-80 software on SymbOS, including Microsoft BASIC, Turbo Pascal, WordStar, dBASE, and numerous other apps and utilities. You could now run a whole 1980s corporation on SymbOS!

While there are still a few improvements planned (mainly one that will improve scroll speed in Turbo Pascal and other apps), this version is considered stable enough for general use and testing. Try it out, and let me know if you want something to work but it doesn't.

Notes:

• You will need SymShell 2.3 (included) to run CP\/M properly.
• Please refer to the included manual (in SymbOS Help format) for important usage information and troubleshooting tips. If something doesn't work as expected, it's very likely the manual explains how to fix it.

Are there any (worth to be mentioned) disadvantages of the new CRTC?

EDIT: Seems to be very compatible (?), now... seriously... Amstrad should have use it!
Interestingly nobody ever offered it as upgrade or so.

For my job some day I did need a PC, later a laptop, but the never could do what my CPCs can do. 

Thanks to WinApe my PCs can do the same like my CPCs since more than 20 years

Hope you get your CPC fixed soon after that 20 years.

My question is: is there anything worth trying to see if these tapes can be made to work? Is it worth running a head cleaner tape or fiddling with the azimuth alignment with a tiny screwdriver, or anything else?

I would definitely recommend adjusting the azimuth alignment. I had to do this recently with an external tape deck that I connected to my CPC6128, which hadn't been used for a long time. Tapes with slow loading speeds loaded OK, but tapes with faster loaders wouldn't. Once I readjusted the azimuth alignment, the fast tapes worked fine.
