Title: Hide filenames on a 3" disc
Post by: giorgis74 on 21:28, 13 April 17
Hi everybody!
I recently bought some 3" disks with some programms on, and when I "cat" them, there are so many filenames (with various extensions) that show up. Is there a way to hide the unnecessary files and see only those that "run" the programms?
Thanking you in advance,
George.

AMSDOS has such a feature (hidden or system-files) but as far as I remember you cannot set this file-state under the CPC-OS on a native CPC. You will need to use CPM for this task.

Alternatively you need another DOS like PARADOS for this taks where you can set the file-attributes to system. I think, there may also exist some tools for this task, but I don't know any.

When you have dsk-images of the disks, you can also use cpcdiskxp to set files to hidden/system....

There's a type-in from AA92 (May 1993) called Directory Editor which will let you set files to system and then save that directory structure if CP/M is unavailable:

Hello giorgis74 and welcome.

There were a few disc utility programs that will perform what you are after.
One that comes to mind is call 'OddJob' and a subset program of it 'DirEdit'.

Info and download can be found on the Wiki.

The screenshot on that page will show you the menu options.
With DirEdit being the 1st Option.
The Menu options were actually programs in there own right, and can be executed individually.
I remember 'back in the day' having just DirEdit on a few discs.

Why not use the excellent tool Disc'O'Magic (latest version is v4.1) by Joker ?

Thank you all for your light-speed responses! I really appreciate your precious help. All suggested progs have already been downloaded and I'm working on them. I've already "hidden" many of the unnecessary files on my 3" discs. You are awesome, guys!!!!!   8)
