Title: Amstrad CPC 6128 missing disk error if disk is not write protected
Post by: amstradmalta on 10:13, 03 February 20
I have just re-commissioned back my CPC 6128 after 25 years not in use. Gave it a good clean up, changed the belt and followed the detailed instructions of the wonderful forum. All is working fine, all disks work ( I am still amazed as how the data has not been lost), except for the fact that when I insert a disk and this is not write protected, the PC shall prompt the error, Drive A: disk missing. The write protect pin is place.Have I missed something out? Thanks in advance for your help and input.

I don't know the answer to this as such, but also have some commercial disks which report 'disk missing' when inserted. I have not tried playing with the write protect tabs, so will try that and see if it makes a difference...

Have you inspected the drives PCB for dry joints?

Bryce.

I tried changing the write protect on my 'disc missing' discs and it didn't make a difference so I guess mine is a different problem.

What is it that detects whether a disc is inserted, the LED / sensor?

(I've not checked this drive for dry joints, at least not recently so will do that when I have it apart)
