Hello,
today i wanted to start my 6128 with Symbifac2 and CPC-Booster Connected. But then #Panik# the screen stays black.
Tunr Off, find that the Exp-Connector was lose, stick it in again, try, and... black again.
Without anything connected it is still black.
I tested the PowerSupply on my Plus, and the SF2 and the CPC Booster working as normal...
So i think there is a faulty Chip now.
I think it comes from the Exp-Port... Maybe a shortcut from the Connector which was lose.
Can someone point me into a direction where to get started finding the Problem.
Or which steps are practical?
I hope not to burn the ULA/CRTC :( but...
Thanks so much
Tolkin

I would 1st check the Z80 in you Plus. The Z80 has all its bus exposed on the expansion connector.
Could also be a dirty power switch.
Hy, maybe a bit missunderstood, the fault device is a normal CPC6128 not a "plus". I only used my plus for testing the SF2 and the Booster+.
Power is ok, red LED light up, and the Speaker makes a little noise when turn the volume up.
How can i check the Z80?
Thanks for help
Tolkin
You need to take it from the socket in your Plus and put it in the 6128. It is socketed in both machines :)

I am more thinking the opposite way, test the 6128 Z80 in the plus.
definitely! It would be great to swap and be sure that the z80 is fine, hehe.
Hello you two :)
thanks for the great help, it was the right direction.
I take a Z80 from an old Amstrad PCW Main-Board where the Monitor had a faulty Screen-Tranformator.
And luckily the CPC started, and everything is fine...
Luck in Worst Case (or what the Phrase in english is, in German it calls "Glück im Unglück").
The Z80 is more easy to get, than other parts.
So i can use the 6128 today :)
Thanks so much! ;D
It is my own first CPC which i get in 1985 when i was 9.
So my personal feelings are a high for this little brother.
In summary, the bad sitting Centronics Connector made a shortcut, and the Z80 died.
1000 Thanks again
And sorry for my bad english ;)
Tolkin
Cool!
Do you mind looking the pcw board model?
Just checking if I don't have that model scanned ;)
Hy, the orginal was a Z8400APS.
These are direct Alternatives to this CPU:
Z8400AB1 /Z80ACPU
or
Z0840004PSC
BTW: The PCW Board is MC0030B
Sending you a PM!

I am very happy to hear that is working again! The good news is that it should be possible to fix/substitute almost everything in that particular computer, you will probably be able to use it for many years.

That's an Amstrad 6, because the CPC and the 128 are missing :)
Bryce.
That one is probably the most elegant and classy external drive I have ever seen. I should have had the idea myself.
