I burned the ctm 644 accidentally.
« on: 19:17, 31 January 20 »
That's the story I have buy a little bargain a pal-secam trascoder for 5e to try the french mp-3.

But I made a wrong thing that never happend to me in 30 years.

Instead of connect the French mp-3 to the ctm I connect the 5v ctm to the 12v ctm. Epic fail.  :picard2:

So now my monitor die and not display any image.

Can be repaired or he die forever?.

Usually, this does nothing as the CTM goes in default by detecting the voltage to the ground (because that the polarity is inverted). Have you tryed to turn it off and on again? (I don't know how to, but I think that is not a fatal issue)

Usually is correct, but with old hardware "usually" unfortunately doesn't always happen. If the monitor isn't turning on at all, I'd check the fuse (F501) first. Any 2A fuse should be fine. If the fuse needed to be replaced but blows again instantly, the 78LM12 (12V regulator) may have an internal short and needs to be replaced.

The 5V circuitry is a bit more robust and may have survived your adventure.

I not touch it from time I write, but after it burn, I connect the 464(after take 5v out with polymeter). And the cpc 464 switch on, but sometimes not as it not recieve any power. Plus something don't smell good, literally. Another thing is the screen appears "on". I mean  when you touch it with the hand, you can feel the static  electricity in the screen.

Another theme is after put the wrong wire and put the french mp-3 by one instant it show a little little image on the center screen  deformed and then sound a little rtzz and image go out forever..

Thats why in the other hand I think maybe can be related with old incident it have a years ago, when I switch on, and image appears deformed to, sound a rtzzzzzz and it return until today..  (Typical image you found in the web of yugo fail).

Anywake I go and take a look to the fuse first But touch monitors sound very dangerous it's not as safe as the computer board to made checks.

If you can feel static, then the fuse is ok. It's most likely that you've damaged both regulation circuits. This is fixable, but not easy (or safe for a beginner) to do.

I can supuse de cost of sending it should be the same as repairing it here . (if someone want repair it lol).

Its better someone with crt experience look it.

Sending an entire monitor to Germany could be extremely expensive, with a very high chance of the CRT not surviving the mishandling it would get on the way. I would recommend trying to find someone local first. But, it's your monitor and your money, so if you want to send it over, then go for it.

The "tickle" could have been residual charge in the tube.

Funny smell came from the deflection coils:

There is a short caused by humidity. Do you have a cat pet that may have pissed over the monitor, or something like a portable air conditioner leaking on it?

The problem is I can't find a replacement for it. Part is labelled Semco DSE-1422BL. AFAIK, it was used in some Samsung and Funai TV sets. Monitor is Orion 3702B22 TC20. Has anybody a clue on where to find this part? Thanks!

This happens when the laquer isulation on the wires has got old and starts to flake off. Nothing to do with the humidity (or cats). Unfortunately, you'll most likely only find a replacement in another CTM that has died of something else. Nice example picture thoguh :)

I would be extremely suprised if this company actually has this part. Contact them first before you part with any money.

I'm trying to search the yoke in a old spare rest amstrad technical service. (that's a obscure history).

I'n the meantime I have ask in a Facebook crt tvs group.

One guy respond me that he know people that can remade the yoke and ask me the specs he have before it broke. But nobody in the earth know the specs right.?

Another respond me that can be fixed made some technic that's obviusly is out of me ability.

I'n the other hand I find matsumi 1020 tv, matsumi 1040a,. And their equivalents in orion 14ds and suhiso tv mount it.

But of course just nobody sells these models.

Thats a complete nightmare wtf.

If I was to list the top 5 million places I would look for technical advice on anything, Facebook wouldn't make it onto the list. If I want to hear random untested theories, uninformed claims, myths and old housewive remedies, then Facebook would be right at the top of the list.

Thats a complete nightmare wtf.

At this precise moment in history, I think we should redefine what "a complete nightmare" is -and I guess a broken deflector coil would not fit the definition  ::)

Btw, HR Diemen did not respond yesterday on the availibity of this part, since they may be in quarantine too. As long as I have any news from them, I will let you know.

And for the attemps on repairing this part: the coil is broken in at least three different areas, and adding solder there would mean a deflection problem when trying to adjust the coil block back to the tube. Besides, I would also have to isolate the layers of coil that had lost its varnish, and add some solder mask to them, so I may have in the end a (too much big) prominence that would prevent the coil to fit the tube, as I say. So repairing the coil is something I could not guarantee would last too much, plus the result may produce a distorted picture, and/or that the picture would not "fill" all the visible area.

Is a nightmare between "". Really is funny try find a solution I was learn about deflection yokes theory.

I have observed one interesting thing in the ctm 644.  I View the cpc wiki images and the schneider 644 that is in the web.

Appears ctm 644 mount at least two different tubes of orion.  Ant the two have different deflection coils that mine. So ctm 644 mounts varios different deflections coils?.

We can at least make a little databasee maybe we can found something compatible today.

If someone can take a look at their ctm and tell tube code+deflection code can be good.

And yes bryce the Samsung 1422fl is posible buy it, but sound to risk if we don't know if is compatible or not.

Dragon, I have a spare screen in here with everything but the PCB. Sadly, I am based in Oxford and it would be very expensive to send it. However, if you really want it, we can see how to do it once the pandemia is over. I am not asking anything for the screen, just postage costs  :) .

Mmm, I not sure I only need the yoke. Not the entire screen. What tube/ yoke it have?.Maybe you can take the parameters it have with a polimeter.

Yeah, anyway the ctm his stuck in the game, because the game shops are closed. So the thing is anyway in standby.

We can decide later. When pandemia is over. My another option is jump to the abyss and try the 1422fl g that cost 37e or the no g that cost 50e. wtf.
