Hi guys,
This is my first post here, my name is Claudio, living in Sevilla (Spain). I'm 42 years old and owner of a fantastic CPC 464 from 1986.Thanks all you for givin us a place where we can still work with this fantastic machine.
Well I'm writing you because I would like to test Symbos 3.0 on my CPC464 with m4 board updated to the last version.
Maybe my question is a very stupid one, but really that's a little bit confuse for me. Well, I'm using Basic 1.1, AMSDOS 0.5 and lower rom 6128 modified, in like was explained by AUAMSTRAD guys here: https://auamstrad.es/hardware/m4-board-configuracion/#5 (in Spanish only, sorry)
That way, I'm emulating 128k and basic 1.1 like in a cpc 6128, right?
So here is my question:
Is that enough to install Symbos on the M4's SD card or really do I need a physical (real) memory expansion?
If I need a physical memory, which one do you recomend to use with my m4 Board?
Thanks in advance, guys.
Best regards,
Claudio.

HI Claudio

Welcome.

I use the same setup to run SymbOS, a 464 and M4 unfortunatly you need a physical memory expansion to make SymbOS work.
There a many around ;) Make sure you get one that supports the C3 page switching mode..

You need a memory expansion THAT IS COMPATIBLE with the extra paging modes of the 6128

something like this by example: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/z-mem-and-d-rom/

Hi Claudio,
It's a great advantage to use a RAM expansion. For the CPC464 I suggest the RAM expansion from Revadhino (see thread here in the forum). Because his expansion fully supports RAM configuration &C3.

For SymbOS it doesn't matter which BASIC or Firmware you use.

Also Revaldhinos expansion allows you to use CP/M Plus (and FutureOS).

Good luck!  :)

Hi Claudio
I use this memory expansion: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Old_School_512K_RAM_Expansion (The one mentioned by Gunhead I guess) it works really well.
Also i have an ancient Dobbertin expansion: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Dobbertin_Memory_Expansion, but I have not tested this with SymbOS.. (also its hard to come by now a days).

Good fun!

Nope, that's for 6128 and Plus only.

But one can PM @revaldinho here in the forum. :)

@Ygdrazil means this one for the '464: https://github.com/revaldinho/cpc_ram_expansion/wiki/Universal-Amstrad-CPC-512KByte-RAM-Card

I have one ready built and tested, plus I have some blank PCBs on hand but would need to order some more RAM ICs and sockets to build up any more.
