Title: Picture of modded RGB output in a Plus anyone?
Post by: ||C|-|E|| on 17:28, 06 April 16
Hi!

I would like to add the 3 capacitors to the RGB output of my Plus because it suffers from the vertical streaks in certain degree. I remember that it was described in a post, long ago, that it is possible to solve the problem adding a 220pf capacitor to each colour signal ( Dirty video on 6128 Plus RGB Scart (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/video-not-clean-on-6128-plus-rgb-scart/) ). However, although I was looking for it, I could not find a picture of a modded board. It is not the end of the world because I have the service manual but I would really appreciate to see a pic if somebody did the mod already. I was also considering to prepare a external adapter for this, but I think that is cleaner to do it on the board of the computer  :)

Thank you!

My Plus was modded, but I took the easy option. The capacitors were soldered to the pins directly under the Monitor connector. That computer has since been permanently converted to S-Video now though, so the caps were removed and all filtering is now done on the S-Video PCB.

Thank you Bryce! That approach sounds great and easy indeed  :D The only thing I am still considering is if I am going to do it in the motherboard or as an external filter. Yesterday I had quite clear that it would be in the motherboard but then I was thinking that the external filter should be small enough and would offer the possibility to unplug it at will  :)

It's neater inside. If you really want to make it switchable, add a switch or jumper to the GND connection to the capacitors.

Huum... that jumper idea is actually great, it did not think about it, how stupid of me  :picard:

So, I already did it. These capacitors are really small but once soldered the modification is not intrusive at all . At the end, I decided not to put a switch or a jumper, they are easy enough to desolder if it is eventually necessary, although I do not think it will be the case  :)

It actually makes a difference, even with the original CM-14 screen, so it is definitely something I would recommend  :)

Will be trying this shortly

It is actually a very easy mod, particularly because Bryce already told us what is necessary to do and checked the values of the caps  :D

Pin 7 looks a bit suspect would it be possible to reflow the solder Please.

Sorry, I am editing the post because I did not understand you well, the jet lag is killing me :D

Yeah, there are a few soldering points in the original board I do not particularly like. I think that the guy/girl that did the job could have been more careful. I do not know if it is actually worth going through them, though.

You're right. In fact pins 1, 3 and 7 all look like they have the beginnings of a dry joint. I'd reflow all three of them.

I will have to go very carefully through the whole board then, since there are a few more of those  :) . I also found a few (that I reflowed) when recapping the CM-14...  :-X
