Fairly new here, but a long time Amstrad CPC owner, I managed to bag a 6128 Plus for a considerable but nonetheless, still reasonable price considering.

I was aware it had some paint marks but wrongly assumed it was wall paint as what splashed/sprayed on it was obviously a very thin consistency since the texture is unchanged.

Does anyone have recommendations as to what I can use to try and remove it, starting from least to most aggressive? Already tried soapy water and all purpose polish.

Thanks in advance.

Got to be careful not to use anything too harsh and melt the plastic of course.

Try leaving a thin coat of Dettol over it for a few hours then gently rub it off.  That's pretty good at breaking down paint + ink etc. and is plastic friendly.

Only perform on a small patch on the underneath to start with just in case of anything unforeseen.

I'll give this a try, would bleach be too harsh of that doesn't work? I have used bleach before on a heavily stained console with success.

Can't comment on bleach, I've not tried it.  I imagine that would act quite quickly but I don't know if it would damage or erm, 'bleach' the plastic.  Obviously you've got to be a bit more careful handling it too.

As silly as it sounds baby wipes do a pretty effective job at cleaning paint off and aren't abrasive like bleach. Worth a try.

haha, Dettol, bleach, baby wipes, all a bit hard to come by right now!!  Maybe a good rule of thumb is if it kills C19 it will strip the paint

Well it seems that's what I came to. I tried soaking in Dettol and it did nothing. After much deliberation and talking to a few people, it was clear that the actual plastic has been stained where the paint was set. This probably was an oil based spray paint that was attempted to be cleaned off and what's was left was the staining.

In the end the least harsh method that kind-of worked was bleech and heavy elbowgreese. Was almost entirely successful but on the heaviest of the staining, the texture of the edge below the disk drive was smoothened but honestly it looks way better anyway as opposed to leaving it so I'm not too upset by that. Plus it's not even really touched or seen much.

None the less, it's done, not perfect but good enough to not really notice it anymore.

Thanks for the input guys.

Car restorer polish, maybe use a kitchen cleaner scourer sponge lightly if it is stuborn

Looks pretty clear and didn't knacker the plastic - great result and noted!
