'''Prestel''' was a viewdata/videotex service in the UK. Similar to [[Teletext]] except the data transfer is both directions.
The user connected to the service through a RS232 interface and a modemand appropriate software e.g.[[Commstar]]
The service had various areas/groups pages dedicated to travel, computers etc. There was an area were pages dedicated to the [[Amstrad]] called "Amster's Cage" it which was run by Vince Merrill. It This started on as part of the "Micronet 800 " pages and then later was part of the "Silicon Village" section of Prestel pages in 1993.
The service also had news and software that could be downloaded. [[Cirkit]] made a hardware add-on to offer this service to the CPC.
