It is based on the 2007 C64 game, which in turn was inspired by the 1977 ''[[Taitohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDcCJi_6geo Sub Hunt]] title of '' (Mastertronic), a 1984 game for the same nameCommodore VIC-20.
There are 25 levels in which one steers a submarine on various missions that involve e.g. saving divers.
''Sub Hunter'' is particularly notable for its smooth, colourful graphics with parallax scrolling backgrounds, which were previously thought to be more or less impossible on CPC hardware.
The game is available as a free download, although physical copies of the game on cassette and disc, for use on an actual Amstrad CPC, have been released by [[Psytronik Software]] and can be purchased on 3" disks or tapes or downloaded for freefrom the [http://www.binaryzone.org/retrostore/ Binary Zone Retro Store].
