11 A Side Soccer

Copyright : Codemasters | Reviewed by : Malc Jennings

Ahhh the soccer simulator (football to most people) this is a game genre that has never lost anything over the years but judging by the older classics it has gained a lot in terms of visual improvements.

This Codemasters classic is a pretty simple football game that just about anybody should be able to get to grips with, you have 11 team members on either side (as the title suggests) and you play against each other in either 2 player mode or versus the computer.
Here comes the review.

Graphics

At this point I should say that I am not a huge fan of the Football genre of computer games anyway and even by todays standards the games seem pretty pointless to me (why play a videogame when you can do it in real life).
Having said that 11-A Side Soccer is certainly a very playable and enjoyable football game for the Amstrad CPC and one that will have even the least interested sports fans reaching for the joystick to give it a go. The graphics in the game are based on an overhead view (most classic games of this genre take this view) with pretty cute graphics but nothing revolutionary. Enough colours have been used for you to determine which team is which and what you are playing on (red, white and green mostly) but you can?t help but feel that more colour could have been used.

Sound

Sound is at best average, the music at the start of the game is superb and gets you bopping along to the beat. In game sounds are almost non-existant and it could have been the thing to save the game from getting a low score but sadly Codemasters let us down once again.

Gameplay

Gameplay is awesome and probably the best thing about this game, you will be coming back for more at a later date if you loose the first time put it that way. The control system is easy enough for even the most novice player to come to grips with and it looks and feels pretty good on screen, I?d imagine that a 5 year old would be able to score at least one goal during the game.
