Auf Wiedersehen Monty

Monty The Mole was made famous by Gremlin Graphics back in the late 1980s and it spawned many sequels. Auf Weidershen Monty sees our heroe Monty The Mole on the run once again but there are things in his way that he must overcome before escaping, after all who said that escape was easy.
Monty games were extremely popular on the 8-bit machines including the ZX Spectrum and almost reached the same peaks as Jet Set Willy - in some peoples minds this game is even better than JSW but you won?t know unless you try it yourselves, here?s our review.
Graphics
Auf Wiedershen Monty was translated to many different languages including French and English you if you are looking for Au Revoir Monty or Goodbye Monty you?ve found it.
The graphics in this title look similar to the Software Creations classic Jet Set Willy at first but once you get out of the caves (see sceen grab 2) you?ll notice that it looks similar to the Codemasters adventure classic Dizzy. Well it?s a good combination of the two but combined with the crazy minds of Gremlin Graphics it has plenty of crazy creatures, puzzles and death traps to overcome. Monty looks almost cute in that little suit that he wears and is pretty well animated (along with everything else).
Sound
Sound is a bit of a let down however, although the music is quite good at first it can get a little annoying after a while of playing and the lack of true in game sound is a bit of a let down. What it lacks in sound it makes up for in long lasting gameplay and graphics.
Gameplay
If you like Jet Set Willy or Manic Miner you should like AW Monty, the gameplay is very similar but also with a distinct adventure feel to it. The control system is very easy going, the puzzles are challenging enough to get past and it can easily be picked up by both people that have played this type of game in the past and those that have never seen a game like this before. Okay it?s a little strange but it?s one of the longest staying platformers in history and is well up there with the likes of Jet Set Willy.
