Avenger

You are the Avenger, a mysterious looking Ninja that works for the good and delivers sharp punishment to the evil. In this adventure game you?ll be battling hoards of gremlins, guards and other evil beings to get revenge for the wrong doings of your mysterious world. Okay we made most of that up but it?s a pretty close estimate.
Graphics
Like the many other Gremlin Graphics games, Avenger manages to live up to the expecations of the public in terms of great looking graphics. The best and easiest way of describing how Avenger looks is to say the words Pokemon (Game Boy) and Zelda (SNES) as it?s a very good version of this excelent genre for your Amstrad CPC. Colours are bright, locations are varied, the map area is simply huge so there is plenty to explore, characters in the game itself look like the later games and there?s plenty of fun to be had. The game doesn?t suffer from any of the known bugs such as sprite collison, invisibility on certain backgrounds, slow down when the screen becomes cramped or blinking constantly - all in all this is one hell of a good looking top-down adventure game for your Amstrad CPC.
Sound
Sound of course is great, the introduction music (on the options screen, of which there is only one option) is an uplifting but standardised kung-fu tune to get you in the mood. Once the game is started the music stops (as always) and sound effects kick in, there?s plenty to listen too as well, including ninja stars flinging about the place and evil monsters exploding left right and center. A very active soundtrack indeed, yet another good example of how games should be done by the boys at Gremlin.
Gameplay
Gameplay is pretty much the same as that found in Zelda and more recently the Pokemon series on the Game Boy. Walk about a large playing map, solve puzzles along the way and collect keys so you can access the buildings (of which there are many) without being sliced to death or eaten by the nasty beings that litter the map.
Anyone that has enjoyed the recent adventures of this type and indeed those from the past (NES, SNES etc) will absolutely love Avenger and we here at CPC Zone can fully understand why, a great adventure game with only one drawback - you can?t save your progress on the way.
