5 A Side Soccer

5 A Side Soccer is a conversion of the Commodore game of the same name (by Ken Grant) , with music composed by Rob Hubbard and the skills of the Mastertronic conversion team it was sure to go down as a hit among the football game players.
As you may have guessed from the title you have 5 members of your team and you must either defeat the computer opponents or play against a friend on the regular old football pitch. Here comes the CPC Zone review...
Graphics
5 A Side Soccer will surely go down in football classic history (at least on the CPC) as the graphics in this game are very well down indeed. The characters look great and there is plenty of colour on show throughout the game, obviously the game isn?t meant to be as serious as some football games but that only adds to the enjoyment of this title. There are a few minor bugs when players overlap one another but it?s nothing overly serious and it certainly won?t prevent you from enjoying it.
Sound
Sound wise, well we have music from the ever so talented Rob Hubbard (the C64 music king) at the start of the game and plenty of in-game sounds to keep you entertained (converted by Mastertronic). There isn?t much here that can be compared against the C64 version as it?s a pretty accurate conversion.
Gameplay
In terms of Gameplay, well if you want a quick and non-serious game of football on your CPC then this is one to play. The control system is easy, the gameplay is simple and totally not confusing (like some games that have various kicks for example) all you need to do is run up and down the pitch grab the ball and kick it in to the other sides goals - simple. You can play against the Amstrad or your friends so that single child families can still enjoy the game and of course those that don?t like meeting up with friends...you know who you are :)
All in all another great football game for the CPC that is even better than Codemasters 11 A Side Soccer, well worth a go if you love your football.
