5th Axis takes place on a deserted colony in which you have been held prisoner, it?s you only hope to try and escape from the complex before you are murdered by the evil that patrols the corridors.

Loriciels try to take on the might of Impossible Mission in this action platformer that is sure to impress in terms of visuals but will it provide the same gaming experience as Impossible Mission did a few years later? lets find out shall we, are you sitting comfortably? then we?ll begin the review....

Graphics

5th Axis has some of the best character animations we?ve ever seen in an Amstrad CPC game next to Impossible Mission, our hero is animated perfectly as he runs, jumps and kicks his way through the corridors as are the enemies which range from Minotaurs, Skeletons and Dragons (a strange bunch but still quite good) which each have there own way of attacking you. The only major problem in the game is the overlapping of characters when they become close and the nasty colour scheme that has been used throughout the game.

Sound

Sound wise, well we haev a nice bit of music at the start of the game which actually continues into the gameplay without dropping any sound along the way. It?s very active from start to finish and this is how games should be done in our opinion.

Gameplay

As for gameplay, well if you like Impossible Mission then you?ll love this title. It?s almost the same game replicated but with a one screen effect (side scrolling) and with futuristic elevators to progress to each floor. Okay Impossible Mission was a challenging title to play and there was plenty of room for mistakes but 5th Axis is certainly not a title you play for a few minutes and put down, you can even save your progress and return later.

The control system is pretty great also, the only flaw is getting your character to run in the direction you want him to as the game often takes over control then you change from floor to floor. It?s not overly difficult to play but then again it?s not a walk in the park either, like we said earlier fans of Impossible Mission should try this one out.
