While terrorism is nothing to be laughed at, it appears that in the early 1990s before recent events were even thought of, game developers were on to a winner with games that sat you in the hero seat. In Blazing Thunder you ride through the desert blowing up bad buys and great big tanks, helicopters, all in the name of fun of course.
Graphics
Blazing thunder at first glance doesn?t look like it?s going to promise much in terms of graphics, upon startup you are presented with the standard Hi-Tec software front-end in which you can choose your input type (keyboard/mouse/re-define) but it all looks a little basic. Once you get into the game however things look great, colours have been wisely used and spread over the many levels, there are some great enemies to tackle, it plays at a high speed and there are no serious bugs at all. Hi-Tec software have released some naff software over the years but confidence must have been replenished when this little baby hit the shelves.
Sound
Sound is very basic indeed, there is no introduction music (a usual missing factor in Hi-Tec games) and the in-game sounds are a little on the basic side. While everything is active enough and theres enough going on to keep you entertained it?s not superb, though the use of stereo sound does fit quite nicely with this game.
Gameplay
Because the graphics are so good and the game plays at such a fast speed there is not much bad that can be said about the game, it?s like Commando with tanks or combat tanks on the Atari 2600 done the correct way. There are no serious faults, the controls can be re-defined to suit your needs (though the joystick works nicely also) and gameplay is fast and fluid.
When you loose a life in the game you are not forced back to the start of the level (a very annoying factor in most shoot-em-ups) which makes the game that much more enjoyable and addictive. This is a great shoot-em-up game that simply must be added to your CPC collection, though the name might not sound appealing the game inside is superb.
