BMX Ninja

In a rather bizarre move by software developers "Alternative" it appears that the once hyped sport of BMX racing was combined with the much more entertaining past time, kicking someones head in. BMX Ninja is a cross between BMX Freestyle by Codemasters and Sega?s Road Rash, both of which seem a world appart but it came pretty close with this classic.
Graphics
BMX Ninja comes very close to the disaster zone called BMX Freestyle in terms of graphics. The colours are the same (yellow, blue and black) sprites are overly large and although the playing area has been increased it still isn?t big enough for bikers of this size. One nice touch though is the shadow that appears underneath our bikers when the jump in the air, of course now this is a little basic but back then this was something we all loved to see. BMX Ninja is also frustratingly slow and although the controls are much better than Freestyle this glitch will keep you off the game for some time after your first attempt.
Sound
Sound is a massive let down, no music and no in-game effects. We expect more from a top developer like Alternative Software (Popeye, Munsters, Spy Vs Spy) but sadly they didn?t deliver the goods (again). The CPC is capable of much more than this.
Gameplay
Gameplay suffers immensly from the nasty slow graphics and although the premise of the game sounds like fun you?ll find it hard to pull stunts and push the other bikers off there BMX as if you pull one false move you too will be flat on your arse with one less life to complete the game with.
Although it may have sounded like a great game on the back of the box it is far off the mark when it comes to playing it, one worth playing once and leaving to one side to gather dust. Sorry Alternative.
