The world has gone bomb mad over the past 20 years of computer gaming. Mastertronic put another spin on the "bomb jack" style gaming platform by creating their own version in the name of "Bomb Fusion". The idea remains much the same but this time you are not collecting the bombs, you are disarming them over and over again while trying to avoid the radioactive beings that inhabit the area.

Graphics

From the moment Bomb Fusion loads if you had a colour monitor you would not be impressed by the graphics on offer. The game was released in 1989 and considering the improvements in technology that our good old CPC had made over the ZX Spectrum you would be forgiven for moaning at the colours in use on this game.

Bomb Fusion looks pretty much like a basic ZX Spectrum title (not much of a bad thing I know) but we didn?t pay the extra £100 for nothing now did we? thankfuly the game was only released in the £2.99 range so you didn?t loose much if anything during your purchase. The game also shows other ZX Spectrum trates in that you are often hidden behind other objects on the screen and the collision detection isn?t always 100% accurate.

Sound

Sound is practically mute, you might as well turn the sound down on your TV set or the slider on the side of your CPC before playing the game as it?s not something you are going to miss. Mastertronic let the side down slightly when Virgin games merged with them and this is a prime example.

Gameplay

Bomb Jack is isn?t, you spend all your time jumping from platform to platform disarming bombs that you have already disarmed less than 10 seconds ago. While the game should be a fast paced action platformer it somewhat disappoints due to the slow gaming speed, basic graphics, lack of sound and poor collision detection.

There are worse games on the CPC but these are from poor or less well known developers, this one must have slipped through the net somehow.
