Bomb Scare

Another 3D style adventure hits the Amstrad CPC. Those that have played the classic version of Batman by Ocean software will easily recognise the graphical style used in Bomb Scare. Yet again we are unsure how far the developer of this title (J.Bond) got in his/her career but Bomb Scare is certainly not the disaster you might think it is. You play the part of a bomb disposal droid and must collect objects from the perilous rooms to disarm the bomb before the counter reaches Zero.
Can you do it?
Graphics
From the moment the game loads you feel as if you are playing an Ocean Software adventure as the graphical nature of these 3D adventure games remains 100% faithful in Bomb Scare. Colours do look like something from the ZX Spectrum era but that?s not really much of a bad thing, the colours on offer in Batman for example weren?t great but the game certainly lived up to the expectation.
Sadly Bomb Scare does have a few problems, the game works fine until we are covered with nasty objects that want to kill you - at this point the speed of the game is reduced which of course leads to poor response time and a very irate game player.
Sound
Sound is also on top form and actually puts some of the bigger names to shame, we are introduced with a nice piece of music that plays before the game loads which is then followed by all the action packed noises you would expect from a game of this nature. A very good job indeed.
Gameplay
Bomb Scare is like most other 3D adventures in many ways but it seems to be lacking many elements that kept the player happy in the other titles. For example the slow down in the game will quickly start to annoy you as your lives are zapped due to unresponsive controls, the fact that you are restricted to the CPC keyboard for movement and picking up objects leaves a lot to be desired and the graphical wizadry seen in many Ocean games is simply not emulated well enough in Bomb Scare.
In short the game could have been a whole lot worse than it is and it certainly remains playable despite it?s faults, if you purchased it from the software store as new then you probably wouldn?t be returning it.
