Graphics
Now this is one game we simply could not resist comparing agains the ZX Spectrum version because we have both of the games and systems in the original format right here. The ZX Spectrum version only displays a few colours (red, green, blue, yellow and mixes of them) were as the CPC version has more details, better looking characters, overall better animation and a bucket load of more colours on display.
Its litterally like looking at one version on a black and white TV and the other on a colour one, not quite as dramatic but you can certainly see the Firebird took the CPC to the limit and showed those ZX Spectrum folk a thing or two.
Sound
Sound is a let down in one way and not so much in another. The reason we say this is because although there is intro music it continues to drone on throughout the game and how many times can you listen to the Blue Peter style ocean theme without going nuts and switching off your computer or turning the sound right down?
This is also a problem in the ZX Spectrum version so we haven?t been diddled and at least Firebird included everything the Spectrum version has and a few extras besides.
Gameplay
The idea of Booty is to collect the treasure, find the keys to unlock the numbered doors and progress to the next room in the ship. Do all this and avoid getting yourself killed by the pirates that walk the decks and guard the treasure.
Booty is a fairly simple game and is very easy to get to grips with, the control system works perfectly and doesn?t make the game any more difficult to play than it should be. Those that love platform games will easily enjoy Booty and considering the massive improvement over the ZX Spectrum version there is nothing to complain about and this is without a doubt a VERY good if not the BEST conversion of the game yet.
Come shake your Booty.
