Bronx Street Cop

Five levels of tense action as you take on the role of Bronx Street Cop. The city is alive with criminals, armed robbers, crazed muggers, evil drug pushers and only one things stands in their way - New York?s finest police department and it?s number one cop - YOU!
Graphics
Those that have played games such as Hostages by Infogrames or the bonus levels of Robocop will recognise the type of shoot-em-up this game follows. There are 5 levels to shoot your way through and each looks graphically better than the last one, more colours are drawn on screen and the locations become more and more detailed. Sadly the targets you shoot at remain mostly the same as the training levels, guys in terrorist masks and little old ladies that just can?t help getting in the way.
There are no graphical glitches in the game and it certainly keeps up the pace to keep you interested in playing, the only gripe we have with the graphical side of things is the MODE 0 looking cross-arrow for aiming at the targets, couldn?t this have been a little bit smaller Mastertronic?
Sound
We are treated to various musical treats throughout the game, each with it?s own purpose. One to make you feel good because you just cleared the stage and another to make you feel like a stupid fool that isn?t paying enough attention with you fail the stage. There are plenty of in-game noises to keep you happy as well and it all adds to the superb addiction level the overall game provides to the player.
Gameplay
Bronx Street Cop has always been a favourite of mine and I?ve even had the mis-pleasure of playing it on one of the ZX Spectrum thingies (yeah I know what you?re thinking) and even it could handle the game will.
The idea of the game is very simple, shoot the guys in the masks and avoid the little old ladies if possible while keeping an eye on your ammunition and the counter in the top corner. It is made a little harder in places by setting targets, for example it will take a while to get past the first training stage as you need 1000 points to continue and the game will sometimes not show any of the shootable items for around 10 seconds of game time - very frustrating.
However the game does get hold of you and keeps you playing for a good amount of time, once you get the feel of the controls and get faster at pulling the trigger you?ll be blowing the heads of villains in no time and soon be looking at level 5 of the game. Even after so many years the game comes on leaps and bounds in replay value and should certainly be added to your collection.
