Butcher Hill is a multi-genre action game from Gremlin Graphics, the creators of classic games such as Jack The Nipper and Monty Mole. Sent in to put a stop to yet another Terrorist attack in a war type setting you will find yourself racing through swamps avoiding planes and other nasties and running through woods trying to avoid those nasty people with guns.

Graphics

As we mentioned in the introduction, this game has various stages of gameplay and each is different from the last. For example the very first level is very much like something you would find in the Domark series of James Bond games, very well detailed with some great use of colours while maintaining a fast speed. Sadly this part of the game soon becomes tiresome as there is very little in a variation of things to look at or shoot down while moving down the swamp.

The second level is like an early version of Doom, you are running about the woods in a 3D first person perspective looking for the enemy themselves and shooting them down, the CPC certainly manages to cope with the demand and the use of colour is superb as it certainly sets the tone for this level.

Sound

Music is like something out of an old war movie and sets the tone very nicely, sadly it stops when you start the game but at least something is there. In-game sounds are pretty good too and vary from level to level which is a good thing. A very good job by Gremlin once again.

Gameplay

Again the levels vary from stage to stage so you won?t find yourself doing the same thing more than once. There is something for everyone in this game and it?s all a matter of getting to the part of the game you like or cheating your way through to the next level. Butcher Hill is not an easy game though and it might be a little frustrating to some less well tempered readers.

The game is pretty fun from start to finish and providing you don?t mind a little but of a challenge then this is one for you to give a shot. Gremlin have a reputation at making great games and this one falls into the try for yourself category rather than the dead on arrival range.
