This is another of the repackaged games that was given away free in certain countries with the CPC 464 and instructions "Not to be sold separately". But could they realy sell this title if they tried? Campeones is an early racer for your CPC and as you?ll see in our review it certainly wouldn?t be worth £2.99 from your local store!

Graphics

Campeones is one of the freebies you are given when purchasing the CPC 464 in certain countries and boy does it show. The graphics are reasonably well presented and the use of colours cannot be faulted anywere in the game, BUT the way in which the screen re-draws itself at every turn is simply a nightmare for the player.

Imagine this, you turn around a corner, the screen blanks and the next part of the track slowly appears while your vehicle is still in motion. Now imagine that on turning a corner the next so called section of the track isn?t drawn correctly and just for a split second you see another section of the track, just long enough for you to hit the wall in front of you. Indescomp brought us some greats like the Roland series but I seriously don?t think they cared much about this one.

Sound

Sound is great though, considering it?s not worth much in value they certainly went to some effort on this score. We are presented with a nice soundtrack at the start of the game, much more pleasing than "Roland On The Ropes" for example which then follows on to some pretty well done engine sounds for the race itself. This cannot be faulted.

Gameplay

Gameplay is pretty dead though. Taking on the top-down approach you must beat the computer/human controlled player and come in first place while avoiding the edge of the course. This would be simple but the bugs in the graphics engine are enough to make you hit the reset button after your second attempt, had this been fixed before final code was put out then no doubt the game would have recieved a warmer welcome but sadly it wasn?t meant to be.

Shame on Indescomp.
